I know I'm a couple of weeks early but any predictions on Man of Steel?

It seems to be generating good buzz and I'm going for $100 million opening weekend.

Which will take the top spot in the US box office Fast 6 or The Hangover Part III ?.

I think Fast 6 myself I am hopeing that Star Trek in to Darkness does stay high in the chart. Have no time for the Hangover films at all saw the first film and hated it.

The Hangover will drop off significantly from the first two films. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't cross $150 million domestically.

hahahah my Star Trek guess was way off the mark - it will be lucky to make half of what I said - still think the rationale was there.

On the other hand FF6 is looking like it will be HUGE.

F&F6 = 98m opening - besting F&F5 86m opening. at 317m ww already (crazy)

HO3 = 42m opening - way down from HO2 (85m) but similar to HO1 (44m)

Trek pulls in respectable 38m second wkend. total 257m ww. at this rate might should equal previous ones 385m total easy

IM3 is now #5 in the all time chart. can it get even higher?

Good to see Trek is managing to hold its own despite the stiff competition. It would undoubtedly have made much more had it not been released in such a competitive time.

Hope this means we get a third movie in time for the 50th anniversary in three years time.

maybe if it had come out last summer? (but then it wouldve had the Avengers to deal with)

think they'll have to do something special for the 50th ann - tieing in with the original trek timeline somehow - maybe involving Shaner/Nimoy and even the next generation? (at least Patrick Stewart anyway) a Star Trek 'Days of Futures Past' type thing, with the borg as villains? or the klingons? (or the borg and the klingons?)

Man of Steel is going to be a tough one to predict, the film is looking good from the trailers but its has quite a few things working against it. I'm gonna say 650-750m worldwide. I really can't see it getting to a billion especially with what's come before. I hope I'm wrong as I'm really looking forward to it.

After Earth opens in a few days and there is 0% hype surrounding it.

I'm seeing slightly better than John Carter numbers for this.

Its got Will and Jaden smith in it.

That means even if its rubbish it will do big box office.

Do you honestly think WWZ is going to do over $1 billion?

It certainly ain't going to make a billion, that's just crazy talk. It's in 3D so it will make some money but I doubt it'll even take twice its (rather large) budget. But, who knows? It may just surprise everyone.

It just seems to be a massive mess to me... $170m, PG-13 zzzzzombies (most of which look like poor CGI); not like the book; Brad Pitt (is he a box office draw? don't think so...)...

I could be wrong, of course.

It seems now it's best to do a Marvel & get out of the starting gates early around April as by the time June/July role round it's pretty much choka at the box-office with summer blockbusters.

I think the budget is actually reported to be higher than that due to reshoots (could be wrong). Also, it's out the week after Man of Steel and the same week as Monsters University which is likely to hurt it. And even if it starts well, the films in July will bury it, I almost feel sorry for it.

I saw the trailer for World War Z attached to Evil Dead and it didn't really inspire much confidence in the end result. But that's probably just the trailer doing a bad job - it might actually be prettty good.

I certainly don't think it's going to get remotely close to $1 billion but I also don't think it's going to be a massive bomb either. I'm guessing total worldwide gross of around $350 million.

World War Z may flop outright. The trailer doesnt even give you an idea what its about! Apparently its a zombie apocalypse movie...except that the trailer doesnt show any zombies.

Brad Pitt is not much of a box office draw going by his last couple of flicks. He may sell newspapers and magazines but not cinema tickets.

The director is only known as that guy who made one of the worst Bond movies ever.

Its a '' family friendly '' zombie apocalypse movie.

Its coming out only a week after Man Of Steel.

I think the biggest burden to the box office with this one is the fact the two trailers which have been out there have been rather dire and seems to suggest that Will Smith is taking back stage to his son in this one (also melodramatic father son moments mixed with bad CGI do not necessarily sell a film well). I would not be surprised if it underperformed.

After Earth looks pretty poor to me. World War Z sounded like a great idea but the trailer was poor and all of the production problems mean it's going to do poorly in my opinion.

And the guy who made Finding Neverland, Monster's Ball, Stranger then Fiction and The Kite Runner and that strikes out more then Bond. You cretin.

Not many care about Bond directors either.

Just seen the poster for After Earth.

So it looks like STID will outperform the last Trek film after all. That, along with the 50th anniversary coming up in a few years means a third instalment for Pine and co is a dead cert.

Not domestically it won't and the increase in oversees gross isn't going to justify its increase in budget.

No matter what way you cut it this has been a disappointment for Paramount.
