My local arthouse cinema is having a jumble sale this week, today I went along and found loads of old issues of Empire, dating back to back 1990. They were giving them away at 20p each or �1 for 7, so I bought 21 for �3. The thought of buying them all to sell individually on ebay crossed my mind (probably would have easily less than �20) but I thought I'd go home first and check what they're actually going for - many of them are under auction with a starting bid of 99p. However I did notice that most of them have no bids (the ones ending soonest have about 12 hours left).

Is there any demand for them? Are older issues collectable? (funnily enough the earliest ones seemed to be in the best condition) Or would this be a waste of time?

This should really be in Knowledge Base, but anyway...

No point - I had every issue bar the first half dozen or so and when we moved from our previous house a few years ago I had to basically either put them in storage or get rid of them completely (we were moving to a much nicer area, but also a smaller house). I tried eBay for several months and had, literally, no interest, in bulk or individually. It broke my heart, but in the end I had to admit defeat and take them down to the local tip for recycling, bar a few issues I kept for certain articles and sentimental reasons.

General interest mags just don't have the same market as comics or vintage porn...so I'm told...

Your best bet is to offer them up on this forum.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll just keep the ones I picked out, I'm not going to bother going back and buying more. In fact the staff at the cinema said they'd tried seeing the same load of magazines before at 50p but no one wanted them. I got them for about 14p each which is nothing. I looked through them last night and they were interesting in a time capsule/nostalgic kind of way.

I have tried selling them before but they just don't sell.

That said, special Subscriber Editions with a particular cover sell like hotcakes!

Stuff about selling mags is normally in the Empire mags sub-forum and search would probably bring up several similar threads to this.

The easiest thing, though, is just to search Ebay itself and see what sells and what doesn't - use completed items search. The main reason it is pointless to sell Empire on Ebay now (and I did in the early noughties until it became pointless) is that buyers don't understand that the price of the item has nothing to do with the weight and cost to post - and Ebay's restriction on postage costs in the books section has made shipping magazines all but impossible without making a loss.

Mine went to the recycling years ago.
