Came across this recently - http://whatculture.com/british-film-registry

It's basically a British version of the National Film Registry in the USA; this site appears to be trying to get it going this side of the ocean. About bloody time if you ask me!

But the point isn't for some random website to do it. And the Bfi already do and have

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BFI_Top_100_British_films

The point being that the list isn't chosen by your average punter (as the American one isn't either). They just don't call it a registry. (Sorry for the wiki link, the bfi messed about with their site and a) none of the old links work and b) their search is crap. )

However we do do it on Board as well - not only do we have the Hall of Fame - which anyone can take part in, nominating any film (believe me it's been tested to destruction thanks to the submission of Bad Boys 2) we did a Brit list as well

The NFR is voted by the American general public though. It's a by the people for the people type deal.

I always thought that was a bit of a red herring given it isn't actually a poll and it's pretty much the same group of people cherry-picking their faves every time. At least the BFi is an actual polling, even if the nominees are critics, etc.
