Benedict Cucumber is getting an earful within the online community and certain corners of the press for a recent interview in which he complained of being "posh-bashed". I realise how these days it's very easy to have things said in interviews taken out of context, but does he have a point? Or is he simply reaffirming the stereotypical behaviour and attitudes for which he says he is being targeted?

I've never heard any of that wrt to him - has anyone else?

It's the Bullingdon Club lot that make the press but only context of their political decisionmaking.

Seems to be mostly a case of actor gets stereotyped shocker. Dunno the lad, but given how many actors there are out there who'd kill to be offered the stuff he's getting, he's coming over as a bit moanie.

I can't help but think that Cumberbatch has said one thing, and it's being twisted around...

I've not read the RT interview yet (just flipped the pages this morning) but they have been getting a bit sensationalist of late. At least this is a relevant interview to the mag. Many aren't.

Jumping,Running,Swimming,shooting ?
Obviously there's some 'bashing' involved but it needs to coincide with a (for me) Olympic sport.

As long as there's a 4th Series of Cabin Pressure I don't care if he's posh or moving to America.

Though I have noticed in the last year or so with the rise of Cumberbatch and Hiddleston that a few corners of the press take almost every opportunity to point out their apparent privileges (Eton/money/family name/connections) and see their success as unfair

. Both have also been criticised by (no doubt the same people) for then getting defensive and are then called whining toff rich boys...

I suppose they�re damn if they do and damn if they don�t respond.

It's just like Splat-A-Rat, but instead of a rat it's a Posh, which you try to bash with a big fuck-off croquet mallet. Extra marks given for aesthetic style used and severity of injury suffered by the Posh.

Some of the critics may have a point if they were rubbish at acting, but Cumberpatch, Hiddleston and Dominic West among others are mighty fine actors so the whiners have nothing on them.

These things always go in cycles. There was a period when every programme seemed to have a Geordie/Yorkshire/Cockney accent and there was talk of the rise of the working class actor. Then we had asian actors breaking through (I definitely remember hearing actors whinging about how to get a job you just needed to have been born in Pakistan or India or some such bigoted nonsense). And about the time of the success of Trainspotting when the cast were ever present, a Scottish actor friend complained he was the only actor in Scotland not in constant work. At this moment in time, thanks to programmes like Downton, posh is in. It'll be something new in five years time and BC will be a footnote.

I doubt that. He's a good actor with a flourishing film career as well as TV.
