I'm basing mine purely on performance and making the role their own. Staying true to source material is important but not crucial IMO, Keaton's Bruce Wayne/Batman being one example.

1. Chris Reeve - Superman/Clark Kent
2. Ron Perlman - Hellboy
3. Wesley Snipes - Blade
4. Hugh Jackman - Wolverine
5. Robert Downey Jr - Ironman/Tony Stark
6. Michael Keaton - Batman/Bruce Wayne
7. Patrick Stewart - Prof X
8. Kelsey Grammar - Beast
9. Andrew Garfield - Spiderman/Peter Parker
10. Ed Norton - Bruce Banner

I seem to remain one of the few who has always thought Reeve a very poor actor.

How much of a stretch are we allowed to this? I assumed you meant superhero superhero but you've included Blade - do you mean all films based on comic books, or is there a limit somewhere we should be using?

You can add me to that number. I wouldn't say very poor though, just poor.

Ok, Il'll lay down some groundrules - Superheroes whether they're superpowered or not (Batman of example), TV performances are OK, no super villains (that's for another list I guess), darker or even anti heroes like Blade are fine.

I agree with this, he was incredibly limited but I think he was great as Clark Kent.

I guess it depends on whether I'm thinking of Deathtrap/Village of the Damned or Noises Off

I wouldn't say they're the best but they're ones I like in no particular order:

Bruce Willis - David Dunn
Anne Hathaway - Selina Kyle (might not meet the thread's requirements)
Scarlett Johansson - Natasha Romanov
Greg Kinnear - Lance Hunt (I haven't seen it in years. I don't know if it's as enjoyable as I remember)
Holly Hunter - Helen Parr
Chris Hemsworth - Thor
Robert Downey Jr. - Tony Stark
Michael Fassbender - Eric Lehnsherr (despite the accent, he's still fantastic)
James McAvoy - Charles Xavier
Christian Bale - Bruce Wayne

Me too.

1: Christopher Reeve: Superman
2: Terrence Stamp: Zod
3: Wesley Snipes: Blade
4: Teri Hatcher: Lois Lane
5: John Shea: Lex Luthor
6: Lane Smith: Perry White
7: Ray Stevenson: The Punisher
8: Chris Hemsworth: Thor
9: Michael Keaton: Batman
10: Linda Carter: Wonder Woman

Yeah - I know there's a lot of love for Lois&Clark, but I think that whilst they got casting of Clark/Superman badly wrong (Cain really nailed the role, but he never really had the look), the supporting cast had the look and the characters spot on. Shea as Luthor was really brilliant, I thought. Then again, Michael Rosenbaum was ace too. (I love that he's the Flash in DCAU).

To clarify: I am not a fan of the original Superman, I don't like the Iron Man films, the original Spider-Man or Blade. Darko, The Crow also do nothing for me. Sir's McKellen and Stewart were close and are better than both McAvoy and Fassbender, Grammar was an inspired choice as Beast in a pretty awful film. I used to love Lois&Clark, especially when John Shea was in it and yes I like both The Phantom, Tracy AND Superman Returns

Ron Perlman - Hellboy (Hellboy / Golden Army)
John Phillip Law - Diabolik (Danger: Diabolik)
Mark Ruffalo - Bruce Banner / The Hulk (The Avengers)
Iwan Rheon - Simon Bellamy (Misfits)
Adam West - Bruce Wayne / Batman (Batman- a new thing in the last two years or so having come to appreciate the film and catching the series on TV)
Christian Bale - Bruce Wayne / Batman (Nolan’s Batman)
Hugh Jackman - Logan / Wolverine (X-Men / X2)
Brandon Routh - Clark Kent / Superman (Superman Returns)
Warren Beatty - Dick Tracy (Dick Tracy) / Billy Zane - Kit Walker / The Phantom (The Phantom)
Yūsuke Iseya - Casshern (Casshern)

I would have included Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page from Super but they are basically just a couple of nutters with a wrench not far off Batman but...

I was undecided about who to put in but went for Simon because he actually uses his powers as a hero type and I love the performance. Do you think I should put a spoiler warning?

I'm not sure. Possibly? Maybe just take out that word and leave it as him in Misfits but specify which series?

I liked it as well despite the crap baddie - the idea of a universal force of aliens helping to keep peace is quite cool.
