There are words like 'git, 'sod', 'pillock' and tit' that are so tame that they will hardly offend anyone. Who call's someone a 'tit'? Tits can be attractive things, to insult someone you would have to say something like 'fuck you you saggy, wrinkly, leathery old granny tit'......


or something.......

I like the origin story for the word as coming from Gropecuntelane in the 12th Century which was a lane populated by the low, thieves and prostitutes (apparently the first historical reference to the word) and there is a suggestion that this was where the first hints of the word being "unclean" originate. Also there is the nautical cunt splice which is a form of splice (now called the cut splice). In fact in Chaucers day it was a perfectly acceptable word and up to Elizabethan days was often used in a non obscene form (in fact the word lap played that role although was also non obscene at the same time).

At the end of the day do what I always do. Blame the Victorians.

I thought that was actually just a generic nickname for streets that hosted prostitution? Because the street was named after the activity?

Apparently they all originated from one street (although this appears to be from a 1954 book on etymology so is a bit word of mouth ).
