I'd genuinely love it if one day someone managed to do the impossible and create living Dinosaurs (insert joke about Jonson and Sinatra here). Would make going to the zoo more interesting.

 I thought we'd have had a mammoth by now after they found that frozen one.

I'm no science expert but I'd have thought mixing that hairy bastard's DNA with some elephant DNA would have been a piece of piss.

This has been bugging me also.

I want my mammoth damnit!

Perhaps it's not as simple as cloning a sheep though, even if you have DNA?... There's been loads of documentaries about it, I should probably watch one again.

Why does everyone want a mammoth? It's just a hairy elephant ffs, and have you ever been to an elephant house in a zoo? They fucking reek, so I can't imagine how disgusting a mammoth would be, what with it's manky stinking fur and massive clagnuts. If they're going to start bringing stuff back, bring back cool stuff. Like sabre-tooth tigers, or Paul Newman.

Re mammoths : I don't think it's want of a mammoth through choice - I'd rather have a T Rex personally - it's more because of the discoveries of preserved mammoth specimens in the last decade, of which there have been a few.... so you'd have thought they actually had DNA by now and therefore could clone one, surely?

Not that I have the faintest idea about the complexities of cloning of extinct species!

 Hairy arse ? Maybe. But a Mammoth would be much bigger than an Elephant would it not? I was always of the impression your Mammoth was like a giant Elephant. That would be pretty cool. A really big Elephant. Back in the day they had Bear Dogs. I would like to see a Bear Dog. That sounds cool.

I googled it, but all I got was this picture of a Polar Bear having a wee cuddle with a Dog.



All good though, looks like these two are working on bringing back the Bear Dog.

This is entirely disappointing news. Mammoths are shit. Maybe they did manage to clone a Mammoth, but so underwhelmingly shit was it, that they didn't bother telling anyone. They probably just shaved it and gave it to the Circus.

Imagine all that time, effort and money and all you get is a short, hairy arsed elephant. You wouldn't brag about it would you?

I was only going off Wiki as I say, but it says that the largest known mammoths were roughly 4m tall at the shoulder, (which isn't unheard of in African bush elephants), but most were the size of an Asian elephant. I expect someone took a bit of artistic licence in that picture. Or Wiki is full of shit.

The problem with cloning, as they found with Dolly the sheep, is that the clone is the same age as the original due to ageing DNA etc. It was also have the same problems healthwise so it isn't as simple as it would seem.
