His appearance at the olympics closing ceremony inspired to me use an old favourite.

He'd still sound better than Bob Dylan!

Freddie is to Dylan's vocals as Dylan is to Freddie's lyrics

Glengarry Glen Ross is fantastic.

Much Ado is pretty good as well, it's been a while since I saw it, my main memory is Keanu .

I'll take that as Freddie > Dylan, especially as you liked many of the choices in my Queen thread

But please, even if that order is not not the case for you, don't shatter my illusions!

Freddie was a better singer (not particularly difficult), Dylan is a better writer.

I genuinely don't get the Queen love. Mercury may have been able to hit every note under the sun, but I always found his voice sound so bland to actually listen to. And there's no Queen songs where I think it's a great pop song, because they all sound so self-important.

Isn't that the same for anybody who doesn't get why someone else likes a group/singer? They just don't get it?

You know there are Coldplay fans out there who apparently don't care that the lead singer is a sanctimonious get who keeps writing falsettos his voice can't sing. I know!

Horses for courses innit. I feel kinda the same way about The Smiths. I think Johnny Marr is a great guitarist and their songs have some good lyrics but Morrisey's voice kills any burgeoning attachment to their songs stone dead for me.

Yeah but you can still see some worth in the band, even if that worth is overwhelmed by what you dislike. Queen, I can see nothing.

Because everything sounds so BIG with them. It feels like the musical equivalent of being stuck in a room with someone who has a tendency to indulge in attention seeking behaviour, who is currently coked out of their mind.

See, I would say that yes the majority of their songs are theatrical, but never ostentatiously so. I suppose it is a matter of preference - your description is one I'd apply to people who indulge in vocal gymnastics during every refrain to show "just how talented" they are (normally people like Leona Lewis). As Harry said, horses for courses.

I've been mixing up Breaking Bad (seriously, can Marie die now, please? "Oh it's everyone else's fault that my husband is a thick cunt") with a rewatch of Lucky Louie and I just realised last night that the incredibly slutty 16 year old who tries to seduce Dave 'Gruber' Allen and offers to blow Louie in one episode is actually an incredibly young Emma Stone. You should watch it and be freaked.
