Of course it's not over, we've not had McCartney yet!

Do they really have no idea how to finish this?

I think we could have done with this in the main show and cut out some of the songs. Best segment of the night, I reckon.

Wasn't it supposed to have finished half an hour ago? I'm sure the Freeview EPG said 11.30....

Argh! Why couldn't they play this earlier?? I thought the flame going out was going to be a dignified silent end (even if i did sound a bit Last Post ), and now my favourite song feels inappropriately out of place!

Glad I wasn't seeing things.

What happens if you are watching this at a cinema? Or any live event that runs over?

Dances With Wolves wasn't it? Seemed a bit of an odd choice. Worked though

The Who show up the vast majority of wastrels preceding them.

Mime-tastic.

Even Annie Lennox. Miming. Jings.

This, very strange!

George Michael was obviously singing live to Freedom, but then I swear he was miming to his new single afterwards. Matt Bellamy was singing live with Muse, but I have a sneaking suspicion the band was miming, maybe. Then Annie Lennox. All a bit weird.

That said, hard to tell at all really, the sound mix on these BBC broadcasts has been uniformly shocking for both the opening and closing ceremonies.

Commentary was strangely absent for most of the evening thankfully, still didn't stop the odd howler from the likes of Nelson and Co:

"Annie Lennox performing Little Bird from Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula Soundtrack!"

The Who should have opened the night, Eric Idle should have closed it with possibly a bit of take that for the flame going out.
And knock at least half an hour off the whole thing.

Fuck me I thought I'd still be watching it this morning - it was really good at times (Kate Bush Running Up That Hill for example) but George Micheal overstayed his welcome, Darcey Bussell was a painful addition and they should have knocked a good 45 minutes off the whole thing removing pointless stuff like all the supermodels.

Still a good effort - whoever decided on the seat lighting needs a pat on the back because it really did transform the stadium.

Just looked like yet another Eurovision pop concern and a right mess. They hacked almost every famous person they could muster into it for gods sake! is that what the Olympic ceremonies are about then...celebrities.

And still the lack of news continues. Oh look a correspondent live at Heathrow where lots of people are boarding planes. Oh look a correspondent at an "eerily silent" Olympic Park to tell us every hour that there's no-one there. The most heinous of tory panels at news conference telling us all about the games that are done - Coe Hunt and the Spider. Oh, and the News Anchor still at the Olympic Park.

Gimme actual news you workshy gits.
