Why is cloud atlas being released in the USA on 26 Oct 2012 and in the UK in March 22nd almost 5months later?

The Empire feature should on the front page right now should answer that question. Warner Bros. will be distributing it in the US, but couldn't find a distributor for the rest of the world so had to raise the money themselves. This leads to some territories having to wait longer than others to get it. I'm personally happy that it's not coming out on October 26th over here, because it would be in competition with Skyfall (which I also want to see).

I knew nothing about this movie until this morning, and now it's one of the movies I'm most looking forward to. It looks extremely ambitious, and the trailer looks absolutely incredible. I'm actually a big fan of all of the Wachowski's work (except Speed Racer... and I don't care if V For Vendetta is considered a classic, it's still one of my favourites), but this seems like it's out there even for them. Have only seen Run Lola Run by Twyker, but that was an enjoyable slice of insanity.

Like has been said, if it doesn't work, it will be a mess. But, if it does work (and the general buzz around its premiere is that it does), it could be one of the most impressive movies to come out for a long long time.

Thanks for the reply AxlReznor, i agree im really looking forward to it, i actually enjoyed speed racer, one of the few...the cloud atlas trailer looked amazing for me and im glad its 2hr44min running time to try and do justice to the book...initial reports are promising as you say...10 min standing ovation at toronto film festival...

Had no idea the release was that far away in the UK, will probably be able to pick it up on US Blu-Ray before it hits cinemas here with that sort of gap.

Out in just over 2 weeks on US Blu-Ray, quite looking forward to snagging a copy.

Reviews back in October were all over the shop, some saying it was incredible, some hailing it the worst film of the year.

I've seen cloud atlas and I loved it. It's an awesome movie. So epic but seamlessly edited IMO for such complexities. It's a spiritual love fest of magic proportions. I found easy to follow and look forward to watching it again. It's a travesty that a movie with vision and depth of this could flop so easily in the us, I hope it does well overseas. Very rare but my expectations were met, I hope you all enjoy it as much as me...

I'm not sure it's going to do well over here, either. It's such a hard sell, that it looks like it's going to be doomed to cult status upon home release at best. Still... I'm looking forward to seeing it myself, for all of the reasons I don't think many people will.

I think it looks amazing and has a great cast and concept. There was no need for that trailer going on so long though!

This is my view. It's one of my favourite novels of all time and I really don't see how it will work as a film. Still, even if it is absolutely abysmal, I'll always have the book to go back to.
