Yeah, you owe it to yourself to read the book- it is, quite simply, a modern masterpiece. Cloud Atlas would be the 2nd Mitchell book in my all-time top 5 works of fiction (before you ask, Ghostwritten would be ahead of it, nestling in number 2 spot just behind Catch-22). I shared the scepticism of others when I heard about the film adaptation that was being prepared by the Wachowskis. However, Tykwer has form when adapting those "difficult to film" novels - Perfume was amazing - and is no stranger to complex themes in his work. The trailer itself is an intriguing look at how they're planning to tackle the individual tales that connect across the centuries. The cast looks pretty damn solid (OK, so Halle Berry wouldn't have been my first choice but you never know...) and the Sonmi~451 sequence looks intriguing. Colour me excited.
