Ok, checked with Matty and we're waiting on votes from Homer, MA and Paul. Any idea how long you'll need to finish up, guys?

I've only got Ran to watch. However, my copy was scratched (curse the library) so I'm now looking for one online to watch - I have found one but it's gone all slow so I may look for another. But I should be done by this evening!

Do you use Lovefilm? You can watch it as part of the package there.

I did have LoveFilm but stopped it - student finances weren't feeling good back in June. Normally I can find most films in the university library (which has the added bonus of being free), or the one back at home - or I search the web desperately when I'm feeling lazy.

Just found a subbed, decent quality version anyway, so I'll get my votes once I've watched it.

It's one that's passed me by up till now, but yes, I'd like to give it a go.

Votes finally sent.

Ran....hmmm, I've been thinking about this since watching it. It looked stunning - colours, costume, location were all gorgeous. Music was good. The story was good. The performances were all very good. Yet it's the type of film I'd rate highly as an excellently made film, but I couldn't get into it. For some reason (possibly the fact I'm having a bad day), it just didn't grab my attention.

We've just filled up the slots for the next round, but there'll be quite a few open for the round after. One of us can drop you a pm and let you know when we're signing up for that if you like?

I struggled a bit with Ran on first viewing. I was really enjoying it till a certain point which I thought was absolutely ruined by overacting. It's a pretty damn important scene as well so it really effected my overall opinion of the film. I watched it again a few days later and enjoyed it much more 2nd time around. I still think the scene in question is a touch on the dodgy side but it didn't stop me giving it full marks.

SPOILERS OBVS.

Saburo's death and Hidetora's grief and subsequent death. I found it totally unconvincing, massively overacted and really jarring on my first viewing. It totally dragged me kicking and screaming out of the film and actually made me laugh, which I assume was not the intended reaction. On my 2nd viewing I just found it jarring and it didn't bother me as much. I can't help but feel I'm missed out on the intended impact of the scene but the rest of the film is so stunning I can live with it.

rawlinson will confirm this, but I'm pretty sure hubu has dropped out and I think if that happens you're not beholden to watch the film that the dropped person nominated.

I think so anyway, best wait for him to confirm.

Yeah, we started it with Casablanca a few rounds back, nothing against the nominator in any of these cases, but if someone isn't able to take part then we're removing the film.

Knew I should have visited this thread more often. He Who Gets Slapped was the one I had left that had never gotten round to. I could have saved myself 70minutes of crap film. Ah well.

Do you think one of the Mods can change Homer's av to this and prevent him from changing it back?

You didn't want to spoil the film called He Who Gets Slapped with a gif showing a person who gets slapped...?

Yeah this

I've watched 5 or 6 I think. My film viewing has come to a complete standstill at the moment. It's gaming season and I've got my teeth into a pretty expansive RPG (Borderlands 2) so it's going to be gaming season for a while. September through to December is nearly always the same (last year it was Skyrim albeit slightly later in the year).

I'll try my best to get them watched though, seeing as I did say I would
