Horrible stuff - reports coming through that 10 people have been killed in a shooting at Denver screening of TDKR.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-18921492

Note: this is the police radio frequency which is currently at the scene: http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?feedId=43

Fuck.

Imagine going to the cinema to watch a film, and losing your life over it.

Holy gun control, Batman!

Apparently the shooter is wearing a gas mask? Didn't somebody go shooting dressed as the Joker after TDK?

That's horrific and sickening

That's taken my excitement off going to see it today knowing that these people were probably excited at seeing it and then had that happen, awful, awful news

That's my thoughts as well. These people have been waiting years for this and yet it's ended with a truly appalling tragedy. Terrible news.

It's really awful, feels very personal as well. I've always felt a bit vulnerable in the cinema, this does not help.

14 dead now being reported. Tear gas set off before shooting.

This wasn't a crazed lunatic. This was a planned attack. Horrible, horrible news.

What's making it sound worse is that witnesses thought it was a publicity stunt put on by the cinema at first. To be in such an elated mood that that's the first thing you think, how terrifying.

I'd wager they're still a crazed lunatic, planned or not!

As somebody else mentioned above, the cinema is such an intimate space isn't it. Truly awful.

This is truly awful. I guess all we can hope for this is that an outstanding offenders are caught soon and, with those already in custody, are dealt with and punished within the full confines of the law.

Well yeah but you know what I mean. This wasn't some guy who cracked because the screening was sold out. This sounds like a planned, coordinated attack. He had some sort of gas (maybe not tear gas), he was wearing body armour and reports are saying he had a few different type of gun. Clearly a fucking nutcase, but a nutcase with a clear mind.

Gah, bracing myself for something about violence in movies and videogames.

I hope they caught this gun man alive. Sick bastard.

They're also saying he had explosives at home.

The cinema was a convenience, not a cause. I don't think the cinema violence thing will come into it?

You're right about the first part but I suspect someone, somewhere will try and spin it.

if you listen carefully you can here The Dailly Mail reporters at their type writers, spinning it that way now with their "ban this filth" headlines. How long before they or someone else likens this tragic incident to something in the movie. Guarantee it.

Well apparently there are already people calling for all screenings in USA to be suspended.

However, that's according to a user on digital spy who has a friend in America that told her so could be utter b*llocks.

Doesn't the gunman effectively win even more if that happens?

Arguably he's won already, but the bravest thing America could do is carry on as normal.

I really hope people don't blame the film... but it's almost inevitable isn't it. Man walks into a cinema firing off wearing riot gear and a gas mask... showing a film where the villain purportedly does the same in a fictional US City wearing a gas mask.

I had expirence firing several medium range shotguns during pigeon shooting. I had a great time, however during the session I started to realise how dangerous guns really were. Once i got the hang of it, I found it easier to hit a small flying disc compared to shooting a random bloke close range in Call of Duty. It would be so easy to hit a person when holding the gun right.

Edit

What I'm saying learning to fire a gun correctly has a very short learning curb. They are extremely dangerous and the Americans need to tighten their gun controls.

America and their fucking obsession with fire-arms. When will they fucking learn?

My question is, was the deranged nut who shot those people trying to imitate Bane with the mask he was apparently wearing?

How does a person look a kid (never mind anyone else) in the face and shoot point blank. It boggles the mind

No the mask was there becuase he was letting off gas of some sort... time will tell if it was poison or not. They say it wasn't teargas

Sad, sad news.

A really horrible tragedy, and now probably isnt the time to start making guesses as to the motivations of the person that did this. I've already read a couple of articles making the suggestion that the gas mask is a direct reference to Bane, total speculation that serves no benefit. Reports suggest this was a single person and that he is now in custody, I'm sure once they've been established, more facts will come out. At this time, peoples thoughts should be with those affected, not on the acts links (if there are any) to movies/media/comics etc

Tragic stuff.

The scariest thing for me is how someone like this bobs along in society without anyone noticing or thinking "hang on". Mass killings like this make me fearful because it could literally be anyone behind them.

Very very sad news.

It's when I hear about kids involved that it gets me. Heard there were 7 year olds involved as well?

It makes me sad and angry that people think it's okay to do this to other innocent people.

I've heard that the youngest involved is only 6. Any death that comes about in an incident like this is horrific, but it's especially so when young children are involved.

Needless to say, this shooting is abhorrent. I imagine that many of those who were lucky enough to survive this may never want to darken the door of a cinema ever again.

Youngest victim apparently six years old (bit young for TDKR if you ask me, but that's another discussion).

Already hearing murmurs on some radio stations where some commentators in the States are linking it directly to the film.

Surely they need to seriously take a look at their gun laws!
