And the a bit poo film did the whole time passing thing in a constant state of siege better than TDKR. Stop damning TDKR homer, it was fun.

Not true. 30 days of Night didn't have a montage! Or a ticking bomb. FACT!

Do we really need to see a flashback to this? Nolan isn't the kind of director to spoon feed his audience and this wasn't something that needed really going into.

I agree the audience doesnt need everything spoonfed, but there is a difference between spoonfeeding an audience and not given them enough information on screen to make the connection. It isn't a plot hole, but it is a piece of plot that is poorly handled and that to me is a flaw of the film. I dislike that such a revelatory moment is lost to assumptions of things that happen off screen. It feels like a poor decision to me. Much more so than not having the cops have beards 'cause at least it's clear on screen that supplies, tents, foil blankets and food are all delivered to the cops, so an assumption could be made that they wash and shave and eat which is why they would look relatively healthy on thier escape.

Yeah, a lot of the supposed errorsbrought up in this thread really don't exist. But actually the one about Miranda tate that you said does, doesn't either. Baffled when someone brought it up I purposely looked out for it next time but it's simply not there. Bruce sees Miranda when he is brought before Lucius and tells her he'll come back for her. He and Lucius are then taken away with Selina. Lucius and Bruce go off to get him armed up whilst Miranda and Gordon and his men are taken before Crane in the court and sentenced to death by exile. Bane tells the guards to bring Miranda to him and leaves with her. Bruce then rescues Gordon but Miranda isn't there so he asks where she is. Where is the error?

Fox and Tate are found 23 days before the bomb goes off. We do not see Fox again until the day the bomb goes off.
A day before the bomb goes off, Tate offers to help the cops. We don't know where she or Fox have been for the last 22 days.
Gordon, cops, and Tate are taken to the court. Bane requests Tate.
Wayne is captured and is probably brought to the court or a related location under the control of the bad guys. He meets Fox and Tate. This is the first time we see Fox in 22 days. He, presumably, has been at the mercy of the bad guys for all of this time. But Fox would have arrived with Tate. So from his perspective Tate has arrived with him under guard, left, and arrived again after she was captured with the cops. He may not know that she was brought in with the cops.
Kyle escorts Fox and Wayne away from where they are being held. Miranda stays behind. Fox helps Wayne become Batman.
Batman rescues the cops. He asks where Tate is. he has just seen her - she was brought in with the cops before Wayne was captured.

Why would Miranda have been brought in with Fox? She escapes when he is captured. Plus the fact that she is Talia means that we can probably guess where she has been in the missing time. Plus, Miranda is definitley sentenced after meeting Bruce. So Batman expects to see her with Gordon and the cops when he resuces them from death by exile, but she isn't there because Bane has taken her away after their sentencing.

It's not where she is when we don't see her that is a problem. It's where other people think she is when we don't see her. I'll accept that she may have evaded capture when Fox was around.

I'm near 100% certain that you've got the order of events mixed up there. Gordon and Tate are brought to the court. They get separated. Then Wayne is captured and brought to some base of operations where he meets Tate. Then Wayne becomes Batman, rescues Gordon and asks Gordon where Tate is. He knows that he had contact with Tate since Gordon last did.

But even if you have the order of events correct and I've got it wrong, there's still a problem. Wayne's story line would go: meets Tate at the bad guy base, escapes with Fox and becomes Batman, rescues Gordon and co., asks where Tate is. And somewhere in the middle of that short passage of time Tate has left the base, joined forces with the cops, gone on a reconnaissance mission, and been captured. (This is why I'm certain I have the order of events correct - there's too much going on between Wayne and Fox escaping and Batman rescuing Gordon.)

I realise that there's a third possible time line. Bruce is brought to the same base as Tate, Gordon, and the cops at the exact same time. This does not happen.

Anyway, moving on, I'm surprised no one else has metioned the links between the Pit and the well Bruce fell down in BB and also I suspect the Pit being Nolan's reference to Ra's Al Ghul's Lazarus Pits...

The link between the well and prison were laid on pretty thick I thought, given the flashback to his father lowering down to grab his hand, but I certainly didn't mind it, it was handled well. As for the prison being a Nolan-verse version of the Lazurus Pit, it totally makes sense and was something we discussed in the Future Film thread a few times in advance of release. The idea that a person comes out reborn or rejuvenated is there and there are several discussions within the pit (and out of it for that matter) about being fearful of death and how Bruce's renewed fear of death fixes his soul, and as the Dr says allows him to be stronger, fight longer etc. So, yea, Nolan definately put the ideas of the Lazurus Pit in there I think.

I had no issue with Banes death. After all, he wasnt the real villain of the piece and was only a henchman for Talia. And Batman doesnt kill people so it was appropriate that someone with less idealistic values like Selina should finish him off.

Also this film takes place over several months, right? Did Bane shave his head regularly or is he a Duncan Goodhew-esque cueball who doesn't need to? Must have been quite a pain (literally) if he had to keep taking his mask off.

By the way I loved the film.

Batman: A hero can be anyone. Even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a little boy's shoulders to let him know that the world hadn't ended.
Jim Gordon: [realizes and is shocked] Bruce Wayne?

Nearly made my eyes water.

And this one:

Lucius Fox: This conversation used to end with an unusual request.
Bruce Wayne: I'm retired.
Lucius Fox: Well let me show you some stuff anyway. Just for old time's sake.

Reading this back, if it is a regular conversation such that Fox comments that it "used to end with..." then by that very definition is it not a regular request? Mindsplode...

Oh it was regular, but the requests themselves were unusual as in quirky, methinks.

Was pretty sure this wouldn't become a favourite film of mine.

But people started saying Blake would get battered if he just put on the suit, and I remembered "The training is nothing! Will is everything. The Will to act'.

Talia stabs Batman, and I remembered "I f someone gets in the way of true justic, you simply walk up behind them and stab them in the heart" (Talia 'stabs him in the heart' by betraying the feeling she has made Bruce form for her).

etc.

The film that exists rather than the film I may have built up in my mind is starting to creep up on me and introduce it's subtleties

I don't know if this is true or intentional or not but I would love it if it was,

"The Pit Prison where Bruce Wayne is imprisoned after his initial encounter with Bane is stated to have originally been a place where plague victims were sent to avoid contaminating the population. In ancient times, such places were known as Lazarettes, referring to the famous Biblical leper Lazarus, whom Jesus raised from the dead. This is a literalization of the Lazarus Pit, which in the original Batman comics is where Ra's Al Ghul bathes to keep his also literal immortality. Thus, when characters escape the Pit Prison in the film, they are said to have "risen."

I didn't know any of that but I did see the Pit as both a recurring motif on Bruce in the well from BB as the man who falls and also as Nolan's take on the Lazarus Pits.

Currently listening to it but I'm glad some agree with me the story should of been extended and divided in two films.

Also near the end did anyone think of this?

The point is that although Bruce Wayne has retired from being Batman, the implication is that he has bequeathed his assets and tech to Blake to become Gothams new protector should the city need one.
