When does this thing actually open? I should probably go and get it over and done with. Is it this week?

Yeah, it opens on Friday at 5AM over here to line up with the American midnight screenings.

Odd they coincide with NY and not Hollywood. I guess Gotham and all. I normally take a day for the new Aardman to see it almost kiddie free. BUt I'm guessing there will be a lot of fanboys taking Friday off, so maybe next week

Enjoyed the review - it hits all the points it needed to and is amongst the most well-written of the lot so far. If it doesn't give much away then at least it's not running the risk of spoiling anything, which is always more of a concern for many of the members here. Possibly expecting some remarks regarding the gripes Nev has with the film and whether the means its really worthy of the rating but IIRC, Mark Deming's review of TDK also bore some slight criticisms despite the five star grade.
Early reviews from other outlets today are stating similar stuff - there may be minor issues but it's still worth top marks. Even if it may not be without its imperfections, such an overall positive consensus is still great news.

Just to be clear. It isn't so much the time off thing - it's the 5am thing.

If it's 5am then you're a lost cause.

I don't think I would do that unless I went to the midnight double bill of Begins and TDK which still tempts me.

Most definetly the best film I've seen in a long time! An extra star needs to be added for this film. Hardy and Hathaway are excellent and it provides a fitting end to Bruce Wayne's story. The reboot has big shoes to fill!!

There was a screening in Edinburgh?

I've taken Friday off to go see TDKR, and it's the first time I've ever taken annual leave to go see a film, (even though I am now seeing it at a Preview on Wednesday night) I think I'm going mad. I still cant beleive I've done it. I'm not seeing it at 5am (fuck that noise) but I am seeing it at 8am, which still seems ridiculously early. What's also worrying, is that I dont have any plans for Friday until after 5pm, so there is a good chance that I'll walk out of that 8am screening and straight into another. There is a good chance that by 3pm on Friday I will have seen this movie three times!! My anticipation is crazy high, similar to how I felt about seeing The Stone Roses the other week, or how I felt during Italia 90 or during the Wembley Steel City Semi Final in '93. I've got a real buzz about me at the moment, and it's all to do with this film. True geekery. I love it.

Cannot wait for the Batman Begins/Dark Knight double bill tomorrow. Such a shame it isnt in IMAX, but still, it's on a huge screen at the Sheffield Cineworld and it's going to be a great set up for the final film on Wednesday.

Why would you do thaaaaaaaat?

Part of the fun is everyone exploding in hyperbole and then most end up agreeing with the review. Have a look at Prometheus and Spider-Man for instance.

Fun for you maybe.

Can I just pre-empt any decision to make Rgirvan a mod and say that he'd a terrible one?

Haven't read the review as I want to know as little as possible about this, but I did the read the verdict and I'm taking this as a very positive sign (though I never had any doubt about Nolan's abilities). Only downside is that I have to wait until a week Wednesday to see it at the Glasgow IMAX, so I'll have to spend 5 days pretty much avoiding the internet.

Fantastic! I've been waiting ages to see TDKR... review thread 5 stars eh? I'll be watching it on Friday morning.

So basically a far too excited Empire team boosting the ratting to make us all feel good, but when it looms round on Disc it will drop a star as per usual.

Both BB and TDK got 5 stars on disc review, but let's not worry about that.

Poor ol' Empire, I'll bet the consternation and internal conflict of writing a four star review and giving five stars weighed heavy on not only Mr. Pierce but the whole Empire reviews team. All in all, I agree with many other posters on here, it is without doubt one of those reviews which will get the "redux" review and be a 4 star on Blu-Ray/DVD type affair. That being said, the review mentions the unavoidable comparison between Batman Begins, and in particular, The Dark Knight more than a few times, and, I also agree with the reviewer that the bar had been set so high, I think it was impossible to capture the unbridled cinematic achievement that the The Dark Knight was when we finally got to see it. Can't wait to see it, and I would love to come out of the movie with a 5 star rating of my own!

Aren't all those posters (ie the couple above) forgetting there isn't a single point for 5 star or for 4 star? Each, given there are only 5 stars, encompass a relatively broad range. So if it was out of 100, then it's maybe around 90% rather than 99%.

If all 5 star films had to be absolute perfection there would be virtually none. Either way, you have to remember a ranking system is always completely subjective. The reviewer overall felt it merited 5 stars, irrespective of where they focussed the discussion in the review and, IMO, the review easily supports the rating.

I was under the impression that locking it wouldn't actually do anything, because people posting direct from the review on the website would just subvert that or create a new thread or something.
