Five different versions of one song and five different openings, each dealing with the storyline for that particular season. Brilliantly setting the atmosphere for the show, season 5 has my favourite opening but it's season 2 that has my favourite version of the song. Who knew I'd pick Tom Waits? It's because of that damn Cookie Monster video

Nifty animation but a superb tune from John Williams. I haven't seen this show in god knows how long but I used to love it.

Why isn't this shown any more, preferably Saturday or Sunday mornings for about five hours. Great choice.

A list of my own devising would probably include Sapphire and Steel, Knightmare, Captain Scarlett, Pinky and the Brian, Doctor Who, Quantum Leap, Cadfael, original Poirot, Murder She Wrote, Eerie Indiana, Mysterious Cities of Gold, Star Trek, Deadwood, Game of Thrones and some others.

I've not seen The Wire.

80. The Sooty Show

I miss this show. I saw Sooty on stage once and it was one of the best days of my life. And Sweep was amazing. The titles for Sooty seemed to change about three times a week but this is the one I most remember. I once heard someone's phone ring with the Sooty theme tune. That made me happy.

I don't care much for the song but the eerie graphics were a great fit for this supernatural show. Before anyone asks I haven't seen the original.

Fab choice - I love that song although for some reason I remember the titles differently. Maybe I'm mixing and matching with Riget - I remember more sepia tones and the old world sinking into the mire and less guess the symbol modern art guff.

I'd have this higher if it weren't for the fairly naff music. The animation, part Bond, part graphic novel is excellent but the music just doesn't fit and that's a great shame.

Really? I never saw the show but always loved the S1 theme music, then they fucked it up for the season 2 intro.

I wasn't a fan of either piece of music, but I was more disappointed with S1 because Bear McCreary so excelled with his Battlestar Galactica music.

Not seen Caprica yet but I loved the music for Terminator. His score for The Walking Dead's pretty good too.

73. Dragnet

"Ladies and gentlemen, the story you are about to see is true, the names have been changed to protect the innocent"

The real winner in this intro is the ominous 4 notes that starts it off, a variation on the music composed by the great Miklos Rosza for the film The Killers. A great start to the episodes.

Not as good as the radio series or the books, The Hitchhikers tv show is still brilliant fun and a whole lot better than the film. Perfect opening for the show.

We all remember the ace song that went this show (inspired the best ever Weetabix Advert and was brilliantly parodied in Monty Python) but the titles with Richard Greene firing an arrow accompanied by a rousing fanfare are just as grand.

It's ace. I remember when, pre-internet, I first heard the Eagles album that featured the track I wondered why they'd nick the theme from a radio and Tv show
