connery plays robin hood in 'robin and marion'.

plays lead in john huston's 'man who would be king'.

plays richard lionheart in 'robin hood-prince of thieves'.


lionheart in ridley scott's hood movie played by danny huston.

burt reynolds was consider to replace lazenby as 007 in the 70s.

the early 70s bonds inspired the red neck car chase films that made burt a star.

-In the little-known film The Perfect Score (which - by the way - also starred Chris Evans), Scarlett Johansson appears in a scene wearing a tight black outfit, jumping off walls and beating the crap out of a bunch of men.

Along came Iron Man 2 and The Avengers, and Scarlett's character is doing the exact same thing.



-Ben Affleck wins the Oscar for co-writing Good Will Hunting.

In Armageddon, his character is friends with one named...... Oscar!



-In Rambo: First Blood Part II, Sylvester Stallone says he is "expendable".

A quarter-century later, and Stallone is starring in a film about a group of men called "The Expendables."

In Goldeneye James Bond is looking for a satellite called The Goldeneye, and it turns out the film is called Goldeneye

In lots of James Bond films, a character mentions that James Bond has a license to kill, and then Timothy Dalton finds himself in a film called License to Kill

I'm not suggesting they're not true, I'm simply questioning their veracity as examples of so-called 'foreshadowing'. Asking if you're being sarcastic is not the same as asking if you're telling the truth.

This is not a foreshadowing. It's no more uncanny than if he played a character called Matt, or worked with an actor called Will. If it was the other way round - Affleck plays a character called Oscar...and then later wins an Oscar...then that might be mildly startling at least, although still pretty threadbare.

At Comic-Con Stallone stated that he got the title for the first movie from that "Expendable" line. That isn't foreshadowing, that's simply conscious design on Stallone's part.

As you can tell I have fully entered into the spirit of the thread.

In Terminator 2: Judgment Day - which was directed by James Cameron - the T-1000 rose out of the floor to copy the security guard, and almost appeared to look like an Oscar.

Several years later, Cameron would win the Oscar (or three) for his work on Titanic.

I'm not 100% sure about where this was exactly, but it keeps popping up on those "Before They Were Famous" type shows. In a 1984 episode of a kids' show called Dramarama (I think), a barmaid asks a drunken, young Gary Oldman who does he think he is. His reply? "Dracula!"

Judge Dredd was Demolition Man without the satire. Robocop was Judge Dredd in reverse - a machine who is a man. And both were better Judge Dredd movies than Judge Dredd was.

Rob Schneider's uber-annoying "comedy" sidekick was supposed to die at the end of Judge Dredd. As should his subsequent film career...

Sam Raimi's Spider-Man curiously foreshadow the events of Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man just a decade later. Still it was fun watching poor old Martin Sheen tie himself in knots trying to say "With great power comes great responsibility" without actually saying "With great power comes great responsibility." A bit like Darth Vader saying: "No, as a matter of fact, by a funny coincidence, I'm your grandmother's son and your mother's husband!"

Schneider did actually die at the end of Judge Dredd, but, incredibly, it tested badly. I know. Hard to believe now, isn't it?

Men in Black was foreshadowed by Ghostbusters.

The Story of Jesus foreshadowed The Story of ET - a classic example of the remake being better than the original!

And speaking of Messiah figures... The plots of The Matrix, Harry Potter and Avatar (downtrodden, would-be Messiahs from humble origins, with the aide of mystical guru/surrogate parent figures and wacky sidekicks, overcome various obstacles and "Threshold Guardians" to fulfil their Destiny. There are unresolved daddy issues.) were foreshadowed by the plot of Star Wars. Which was itself foreshadowed by the works of Joseph Campbell.

Men in Black is basically Ghostbusters with aliens. Both are hip, knowing, gently satirical New York movies with their tongues firmly planted in their cheeks.
