Christ's sake, either reboot totally and weather the (now obligatory) storm of fan-rage or write a story that capitalises on the age of the GB's and ISN'T a passing of the torch movie. such ideas ALWAYS TURN OUT TO BE SHIT because they can't satisfy either the long term fans willing to spend a bit more time with beloved characters or the new fans they're hoping to attract, who might not have the nostalgia factor the film would hope to raise from the almost dead.

Indy 4 would have been more focused without Shia and instead making story capital out of the things Indy can no longer do, for instance.

The point of a continuation is to continue with the characters and see where they're at, what time has done to them, how they cope with situations they used to cope with easily. Do that, or Reboot as a whole new franchise.

They can get in as many scriptwriters as they like. Without a strong enough central idea to start with, they're screwed. And the passing the torch idea automatically means they have something the story needs to do besides tell the actual story of the plot/dilemma/scheme of the bad guy versus the hapless heroes.

The conflict in Ghostbusters should be the GBs versus ghosts, not GBs versus storytelling logic.

Yeah, hiring Cohen to write the script got Murray onboard Garfield.

Reboot? Passing the torch? Fuck that.

How about we get some new ideas and stop arsing about with things that I love?

Robocop, Starship Troopers and Total Recall all soon to have their legacy raped. Spiderman rebooted before Raimi's films are even out of nappies. Talk of Top Gun 2, and worse yet, Raging Bull 2. There are many other examples.

But fucking about with Ghostbusters? Thats just one step away from rebooting Back To The Future (if this ever happens me and cinema are finished)

And yes Aykroyd. I do remember Blues Brothers 2000. At least Murray has the good sense to stay away.

quote:

and so far the stewing blend of sequel and reboot – with Aykroyd Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson handing over the proton packs to a new, younger generation of spirit catchers

I can think of nothing worse. I can picture the trailer in my imagination and it is winding me up.

Yes, of course, ideally, leave it alone. But if it going to be done anyway, it should either

1) Be made to cater to the largest available market, which is people who saw the films back in the day and those who have grown to love them since (the ONLY reason any interest even exists at all in a 3rd film)

or

2) Abandon GB3 and launch a reboot

The halfway house idea of passing the torch from older to younger GBs is a 'something for everyone' approach which more likely would end up as 'nothing for anyone' in execution.

Etan Cohen and Joel Cohen should do something together, just to freak people out.

Etan Cohen is a totally different person and writer to Ethan Coen (the brother of Joel Coen). Don't get them mixed up, or a LOT of people are going to get very confused.
