It's a 4 star film, I'd say - quite low key, but 'real' in the sense that it is grounded in the Tasmanian landscape, with believable characters and a truly brilliant central turn by Dafoe. Really, the film is all about him, and nothing is made explicit. It's his quiet, stoic subtleties that speak volumes. Yeah, bits of it (especially the end) are a bit cheesy and plot-devicey, but overall the ton of slow burning melancholoy, the earthy performances and the unflashy enviornmental message far outweigh those slight niggles, Recommended.
