Dominos Pizza - 7/7/2012 10:46:27 AM

So, Dominos seem to be pressuring me pretty hard to buy a pizza.

In the last week i've got 2 text messages (one for 50% off any order over £15), an email, a facebook message and a phone call!

I ordered one a couple of weeks ago which came in an acceptable amount of time. Domino's called me a few days later to apologise for it's late delivery (which it wasn't) and said i have £5 credit to use on whatever i want with them.

Today i got this through the post:

Which on the reverse gives me a free garlic pizza bread AND potato wedges with my next pizza order.

Now i buy a pizza maybe once a month, not any more really.

Is everyone else getting hassled by them?

(also, i think that their wording on that flyer is dodgy, it makes it sound like being late is what they do)

Perhaps it picked up its proselytising techniques from the boss.

It certainly does! Haven't had one in ages but there are two in the town I live in, one at each end of the high street...no idea why as I can't imagine the catchment area being extended much by either one as they're probably less than half a mile apart

Other than the constant ads everywhere, I'm not bothered at all by Domino's because I never buy from them, their pizza is foul And for that price I can go to Pizza Express!

I love pizza but Dominos is fucking awful. There is more flavour in the fucking box.

Dominos is okay, I'd take it over Pizza Hut and I use to work at the latter so I have some stories, but it's far too expensive to order really, since a store opened a few towns over from us I think I've ordered from them twice maybe and they opened about five years ago.

I don't go much on takeaway pizza from any of the establishments really, Pizza Express is probably the best but they're also quite expensive and trying to pass themselves off as something they're really not.

They're the same here, they take cheap and nasty to new depths. I won't eat their pizza or any of the big chains I'd rather pay a few dollars more and eat yummy pizza from the local Italian place that are made with real (and fresh) ingredients.
Haven't noticed any excessive advertising from Dominoes btw.

I don't mind Dominos, me and Ninj went through a phase of ordering there every Tuesday (for Tuesday Two's) but tbh its just too pricey, I mean £14 for a single medium pepperoni is crazy. These days I get pizza delivered from a chippy near me which is absolutely exquisite and only a fiver for a 12".

A friend was talking about this exact same thing on Twitter tonight. Which resulted in my admitting that I've never eaten a pizza. I've not so much as even tried it.

That's way past the 'I've never seen Star Wars' lot - should you ever become mega-famous I've no doubt that's what they'll have you doing.

Is it active avoidance?

That... might even be more shocking than my ridiculously sheltered friend who, at the age of 18, asked me "Who's Steven Spielberg?"

It is now yes. I was a fussy child, so never ate it as a kid. By the time I reached uni I became something of an urban legend, spoken of in hushed tones etc, so I've actively kept it up ever since then!

The thing is, I'm not a fan of cheese, and cheese is kind of integral to pizza, so it's not something that's ever really appealed to me!

I was going to say that my boyfriend's dad can't stand tomatoes and gets around it by having pizzas made with barbeque sauce instead () but I can't think of anything that you could substitute cheese with. You need its melty qualities to hold everything on. Otherwise it's just bread with stuff on.

I hear you. I love Dominos and the service round here is very good. I always choose the 'make your own' option though.

I've only ever had Domino's a couple of times. Can't say I was massively impressed. I tend to prefer to go for a make your own option from Asda.

I asked them again on another order but it didn't come with one :(

Dominos ain't bad as far as cheese-on-toast chains go (actually I quite like their regular crust base) and, on balance, I prefer them over Pizza Hut (though I will also quite happily devour a PH pizza, but generally find their bases too bready). But they're definitely a rip-off - a work colleague's son has just become manager (not franchisee) of a new store and the profit they are making on top of the value of what they actually sell is mind boggling (although, to be fair, a large chunk of what they charge goes on costs of running and maintaining the ovens).

But obviously they have nothing on what you can get in any half decent Italian restaurant (often for half the price), or make yourself (very good pizza dough is surprisingly easy to make).

I love me some Pizza but the only thing I've ever actually enjoyed from Domino's is their garlic bread. I dunno if it's the dough or the sauce but something tastes off about them. I prefer Pizza Hut but to be honest I'm likely to give them a wide berth in favour of my local Kebab/Pizza place as well.
