Getting more and more apprehensive with each news reveal.
How the hell are they going to pack all this and the story of Pete's parents in a 2 hour film?

Comicbookmovienews have revealed some very brief snippets of footage. It looks shiny.

I've seen the trailer. A russian version has been leaked (with a subtitle of 'High Voltage').
It's very heavy on Harry Osbourn, with the Green Goblin looking like much more than just a secondary villian.

There's an unexpected cameo too...(SPOILERS) Doc Oc's mechanical arms!

In a move said "to forge a new legacy in the story of Peter Parker on screen," Sony Pictures Entertainment announced today that they will, in association with Marvel Entertainment, develop several new projects in the Spider-Man franchise, with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, and Drew Goddard to collaborate on overseeing the developing story over several films that will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach.

The five writers, along with the two producers and Marc Webb, have formed a franchise brain trust to expand the universe for the brand and to develop a continuous tone and thread throughout the films. Under the deals, the studio announced that Kurtzman & Orci & Pinkner are writing the screenplay for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which the studio hopes Webb will return to direct. That film will go into production next fall for release on June 10, 2016. In addition, the team will build on the cinematic foundation laid by Webb, Arad, and Tolmach in the first two movies. They will expand the franchise with Kurtzman & Orci & Solomon writing the screenplay for Venom, which Kurtzman will direct. Goddard, then, will write with an eye to direct, The Sinister Six, focusing on the villains in the franchise. Hannah Minghella and Rachel OConnor will oversee the development and production of these films for the studio.

Commenting on the announcement, Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures said, The Spider-Man film franchise is one of our studio's greatest assets. We are thrilled with the creative team we have assembled to delve more deeply into the world that Marc, Avi and Matt have begun to explore in 'The Amazing Spider-Man' and 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'. We believe that Marc, Alex, and Drew have uniquely exciting visions for how to expand the Spider-Man universe in each of these upcoming films.

Arad and Tolmach added, "This collaboration was born out of the great experience we and Marc had working with Alex, Bob, and Jeff on 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'. With more than fifty years wealth of stories in the comic books to draw upon for inspiration, the Spider-Man universe is truly boundless; in addition, the Spider-Man comics have the greatest rogues gallery of any series, and to have the chance to explore that on film is truly thrilling. Until now, we have approached each film as a separate, self-contained entity, but with this move, we have the opportunity to grow the franchise by looking to the future as we develop a continuous arc for the story. That is what Alex, Bob, Jeff, Ed, and Drew will do in this unprecedented collaboration, and we're excited about the directions they are taking the character and the world.

I fully expected a Venom movie but did not see a Sinister Six flick coming!

Aren't the Sinister Six bad guys? How's that going to work? I get how Venom can be an anti-hero and you can always have man versus symbiote but how do you make a movie about six villains?

As Webb is attempting to create sympathetic villains (not sure about Rhino) I don't see how this would have be any different to an X-Men or Avengers flick. If anything there will be more spats. A common enemy doesn't necessarily need to be Spider-Man. The real question will be who are they're fighting?

Perhaps someone at Sony saw this.

I would watch that, but we've already seen these villains. Most of the Sinister Six have yet to be introduced and I'd imagine the movie would be their first proper appearance

New international trailer. Prefer this one I think, not as moody as the first.

That's a good point. It depends on the timing. We've seen Lizard, Electro, Rhino and Goblin. I don't see them getting this out before ASM3.

The trailer hints heavily that Vulture and Doc Oc are coming soon. Perhaps they will make their debut in Sinister Six (as best pals working in Oscorp?) before taking on Spider-Man in ASM4?

Doc Oc could make a decent central protaganist and ring leader (as in the comics), tip toeing between Professor X of X-Men and 'Professor' Marcus of The Ladykillers.

I like the idea of Oc and Vulture being two charismatic best buds working in Oscorp attempting to wrangle the remaining members of the Sinister 6 for their own agenda.

Three pretty unremarkable posters have debuted over at comingsoon.net.

I'm not a fan of the cut & paste approach they've adopted for the marketing so far. Reusing the elements for each poster cheapens it all.

On a related note- what's with the hideous vignette template they've used for all the production stills?!

Seeing the posters right after each other makes it look like spidey is fighting a cardboard figure.

The costume looks incredible though, as does spidey himself in the posters.

So virtually every major film website / publication has had it's 'Amazing Spiderman 2' review out since late last week. Bit slow off the mark aren't you Empire?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has left me somewhat troubled in a sense. I'm a huge fan of the films (and probably the loudest one on these boards) and even I left the picture feeling somewhat disappointed and deflated.

The film ought to have had something special up it's sleeve to prove the generally negative pre-release buzz wrong and unfortunately, it didn't.
ASM2 is a fine, serviceable film but we needed a definitive piece to really justify the reboot series' existence.

Spider-Man movies used to be 'event' pictures and now they are seen as on par with the likes of Thor and Captain America. If Sony announced that the 'Amazing' series was to be no longer continued, I would imagine the collective response would not amount to more than a shrug.

One thing is clear: they didn't really know what they were doing. There's hints and teases for future villains and plots but I don't think for a second that Sony, Webb, Arad, Kurtzman, Orci, Pinkner or Tolmach had or have a clear 'plan' or focused passion for the series. This is especially sad as there's some great talent involved.

Is there any appetite for an Amazing Spider-Man 3? Does Webb really belong behind a franchise like this? Who cares about a Sinister Six of half baked villains (eg. Ifans & Foxx...)?

With all this in mind...how about that Spider-Man 4 we were promised?

Marc Webb is a marvelous director. One of the best in the field at the moment. They need better writers.

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 has been delayed until 2018, with the Sinister Six movie supposedly arriving in 2016: click

I will admit that I hate both of the Amazing Spider-Man films, but I can't see how this isn't good news. Maybe this delay will encourage them to invest in decent writers. A Sinister Six film is intriguing but I see great potential for it all to collapse in on itself. Still, Drew Goddard's involved, so fingers crossed it turns out great.

I think they want to do 2 more films, but Andrew Garfield is only signed on to do one more. They also want Shailene Woodley to play the role of Mary Jane Watson... which I think would be interesting.

I think, given that he has had TWO films and has still yet to prove himself, Webb should walk. He nailed the Peter/Gwen sequences but floundered everywhere else. David Yates, Joe Cornish, Ruben Fleischer, Rupert Wyatt and J.A. Bayona are just a few names that should be considered.

It's good news I agree. Scrap the 'Amazing' title (works for comics, not for films) and go with subtitles - eg. The Amazing Spider-Man 3 becomes Spider-Man: Sinister Six. You get to keep the cast and take a step away from the previous misfires without rebooting.
