This is just wrong.

They will suck all the fun out of the 1997 film.

Even if they had free rein to make it as creative and violent as they liked: it still wouldn't work out as perfectly as the 1997 version. That film had everything in the right place at the right time: and most importantly: Paul Verhoeven at the helm.

Sadly I am one of these people that HATES unnecessary remakes. Yes the orginal remains unchanged...but even just the fact that when people will bring up Starship Troopers in the future it will always be followed by: "The original or the remake?"

There is just one.

The most importan question here is..; Is this to be a remake or a new adaption of the book?

We can always hope. But I am not optimistic. The latest Conanmovie was a faithful adaption...... but.. It would make a good 'Game of Thrones' episode but was a lousy movie.
As far as i know this is the same productioncompany... so.. well we can hope.

I want to stress the difference between remake and new adaption. Seems like too many on theese boards have a problem with that.
One extreme example: There are enough material in the Hobbit/Lotr/apendixes to make a 100 min movie with the sole focus on the Gollum/Smeagol story.
That would not be a remake of Lotr but a new adaption of the books.

A remake had to happen sooner or later.

Even if this thing turns to be shit, it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. You'll always have the original.

Fuck, I'm pretty sure that inevitable straight ahead Platinum Dunes remake of The Exorcist - my favourite flick of all time - will rear its head at some point.
