Universal Pictures have announced the US Blu-ray release of Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection on 2 October 2012. This collection features eight films on Blu-ray, which the press release notes are "digitally restored from high resolution film elements in perfect high-definition picture and perfect high-definition sound for the first time ever". The collection also boasts a collectible 48-page book featuring behind-the-scenes photographs, original posters, correspondence and much more. Each film is accompanied by an array of bonus features that tell the story of its creation and history, including behind-the-scenes documentaries, filmmaker commentaries, interviews, storyboards, photo galleries, and trailers. Also included is a never-before-seen featurette about the restoration of Dracula and the first ever offering of Creature from the Black Lagoon in its restored Blu-ray 3D version.

This set sounds great hopefully we'll see a uk release in the same packaging (the hitchcock sets different for uk/us).
and it looks like theres some nice Universal history pieces on the discs too.

oh DC theres even a lil vid on Universal s restoration process.

 October the 1st is shaping up to be a date to remember! Not sure I can justify this on date, as I've just pre-ordered the Hitchcock collection, which is out that day too, but I'm certainly interesting in picking this up at some point.

 Your right adam octobers a bitch i really want the hitchcock set but 100 quid is at bit much currently i'll get it when it drops a bit or succumb to its full priced lovelyness.

DK your in for a great time with these films all really solid, especially fond of the invisible man.

love the Universal monsters, got the 17 film monster legacy set with the 3 busts years ago a fantastic set but this new bd set sounds great.
Im curious if dracula has the screams on the soundtrack heard that current dvds dont, also interested in the universal extras spread across the discs , hopefully theres worth it and not added filler.

 Had a quic peek at Creature in 3D and it looks fantastic! Will start watching these later. It's a fantastic looking set though for sure. really nice presentation. The coffin packaging is cool, but really it's just another £7 or so for a box to go round the outside.

 Quick question - does the Creature From the Black Lagoon disc still play on PS3s? I don't have a 3D player and I still want to see it, but generally 3D Blu Rays don't play on PS3s.... or do they?

In short, does the set come with a 2D version?

 Creature from the Black Lagoon is one disc only for the 2D and 3D. I cannot however confirm about PS3's as i dont own one.
