Saving Private Ryan bores the bejesus out of me. Even the opening barely keeps my attention now since even Joe dreadful director Wright can do it.

I've always rated Thin Red Line so much higher because I saw it in such close proximity to Ryan.

 Saving Private Ryan - Two brilliantly staged war scenes with a lot of filler inbetween.

Schidler's List - Pretty much agree with the points Rawlinson raised, although I think I liked it a little bit better than he did.

I've never been a fan of his other work. The love for Jaws amazes me, what's so special about it? I think nostalgia plays a big part in Spielberg films. People seem to love Indy, JP, Jaws etc more than it deserves because they grew up with it and have fond memories of watching them.

 Don't presume to know people's real reasons for liking films like Jaws and Indiana Jones. Just don't do it.

Garbage like that annoys me to no end.

 Spielberg + nostalgia is hardly an original criticism of the man.

I have fond memories of watching 'The Gate' and 'Trick or Treat'. I do, however, realise that they're shit. The films you list are, in the eyes of many, classic adventures and are fondly remembered because of their quality. Don't forget that people who grew up with Jaws & Indy were already grown up by the time they saw Jurassic Park.
How is the greatness of A.I. obvious or are you prodding?
