Just thought I'd throw something out for discussion...

Most Games of the Movie are crap, usually because they just make up some sub-par generic shooter to cash in on the release. So...

What are the best Games of the Movie?

What should Games of the Movies try to do if they are to be any good?

What movies would make a great game and how would you do it?

I think a sandbox Inception game would be great, unless it turned into The Matrix MMO. Citizen Kane in a LA Noire style?

Spiderman 2 should probably lurk around there somewhere.

Anyone remember Die Hard Trilogy on the Playstation? Now that was how to do a movie tie-in game!

Great game. I always used the cheat that made bodies float away and also to make the voices all high pitched.

You've just reminded me that I rebought this (and the not quite as good sequel) off eBay a few months back, but haven't actually played it since it arrived. Not even sure where I've put it now.

But needless to say it's being dug out later.

I loved this game! Nver got very far in it, was it very difficult or did I just suck? Remember 3 was basically Crazy Taxi wasn't it?

Yep, pretty much.  In fact, that's what gave it such longevity IMO.  The first movie was done as a top-down 3rd person shooter, the second an on-rails FPS and the third an against-the-clock driving game.  I remember having hours of fun trying to hit members of the public while racing at top speed through Central Park to get to the next bomb

It was a great game. Preferred 1 & 3 over 2. Bit like the films I suppose.

theres been a few.

The ones that everyone knows are great like Goldeneye, Die Hard, Star wars Arcade, Riddick and Alien 3/Trilogy.

Theres a few that have been needlessly slagged too. The first Transformers game was pants but I really enjoyed ROTF game, brilliant multiplayer zipping around, transforming to kill someone then transforming again to high tail it outta there, vehicles were obviously much faster than robot form but were much more vunerable. I had a great session once where it was always coming down to me as Dogfight Vs someone as Starscream, weaving between tower blocks trying to gun each other down. Brilliant fun.

Quantum of Solace was a very playable COD-with-cover game. Most of the game was actually Casino Royale mind. Again, decent multiplayer too.
Rambo on the speccy was great, I rewatched Rambo on Bluray recently and the intro music instantly reminded me of the 8-bit game.

Whilst mentioning 8-bit I have to remind everyone of the brilliance that was Robocop. The sequel was decent too. Robocop 3 broke new ground for many and was unusual in that it was a game that was far superior to the movie it was based on.

Of course Ocean software has a template they ised to follow for movie tie ins back then so Total Recall and Batman etc were decent but similar.

Batman Returns on the Snes was one of the best side scrolling fighters ever. All it lacked really was a 2 player option

By the time I got round to playing Goldeneye on the N64 I'd been playing Half-Life on the PC for months so I never understood the love for it personally. I always thought the controls were a bit pants as well and I was never a fan of the N64 joypad anyway.

Chronicles of Riddick was a great game, as was Star Wars Arcade. I also really enjoyed the Super Star wars/Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedi games on the SNES despite them being rock hard. Aliens Arcade and Willow were also pretty damn good in the arcades.

I'd also agree with Sleazy regarding Robocop on the 8 bit home computers. I spent hours playing it on the Amstrad, same with Robocop 3, The Untouchables, Batman, Total Recall and Hudson Hawk. I used to love the Ocean movie tie ins back in the day.

Yeah, the days when you used to look forward to the movie tie-ins being released!  I had Batman, Untouchables and Predator for my Atari ST.  Predator was pretty crap, but Batman and the Untouchables were very enjoyable.  I never had Robocop, but I did have Robocop vs Terminator on my Mega Drive, but to be honest my main memory of that game is the outcry on some parts at the fact that as the T-800 you would be gunning down cops.

Your memory is going in your old age, you could only play as RoboCop that game.

Ha...possibly...but there was definitely some fuss about a terminator shooting cops - must have been in the Terminator game itself!

Lovefilm sent me the Captain America game last week. Not a game I'd normally have bothered with, given the history of recent movie tie-ins, but I was more than pleasantly surprised by this one. It's not the longest of games and borrows quite a lot from Batman: Arkham Asylum (challenge levels and lots of jumping, climbing and fighting) but it was a pretty decent effort nonetheless.
