he has made some shit in his career (norbit, beverly hills cop 3, holy man, boomerang) but he has made a few movies too ( 48 hrs, beverly hills cop 1 & 2, daddy day care)

my good would be coming to america.

Boomerang was okay and I'd include Bowfinger and Trading Places in the good list.

Not much else, though.

BHC, 48hrs, Coming to America, Trading Places, Shrek (voice obviously) are the standouts by a mile. Haven't seen much of his films in recent years, but I think that's because they came with government health warnings. I did have a bit of a soft spot for the nutty professor though. And didn't tower heist have ok reviews? An honourable mention goes to the golden child as well, not the greatest film by any stretch but I watched the shit out of it when I was a kid.

The Nutty Professor was genuinely the last time i found Eddie Funny (though I've not seen Tower Heist). I really enjoy Nutty Prof, its hilarious yet sad at the same time, and the end is great where he accepts his obesity. Ive not seen anything he has come out with since. They all look shit. They all are shit.

He is awesome in Dreamgirls. That film suffers from pacing issues but it is a classy movie. Murphy's character isnt a major player but Murphy's performance is excellent.

Murphy films I like- 48 Hours, Beverly Hills Cop, Trading Places, Bowfinger, The Distinguished Gentleman and The Golden Child. Yes, I went there. It's totally a nostalgia thing, I admit that.

Murphy films I don't like- Beverly Hills Cop 3, Harlem Nights, Showtime, both Nutty Professor films

The rest I either haven't seen or don't mind. Metro has its moments and Life deserves a mention as it was the last R rated film he did.....

I'm going to be that guy but I actually enjoyed BHC3. Maybe I seen it at a young age or maybe I never got to a funpark but I really did enjoy it.

Pretty much everything he did in the 80's bar The Golden Child is great/decent.

Most everything else ranges from ok to fucking awful.

Yup, me too. I watched it constantly when I was about 10 yrs old, so that might have something to do with it, but as far as Eddie goes its definitely not one of his worst. It's basically Axl Foley again with a bit of Big Trouble in Little China thrown in, same Asian-American actors too. Charles Dance was a good bad guy and it had some down right bizarre dream sequences if my memory serves.

Eddie Murphy must be a contender for one of the biggest Hollywood career nose dives ever, based purely on a movie quality basis.

How on earth can the same guy who starred and made comedy gold of such movies as Trading Places, Delirious, Beverley Hills Cop, and 48 Hours, end up in such dross as Norbit, Pluto Nash, and Meet Dave?!?!?

This guy at his peak, which was strangely at the start of his career, was a comedic genius. His timing and delivery was superb and he had a knack of lighting up a movie screen such was his presence. His stand up was legendary. What on earth happened? Did he get too old for comedy? Surely not. Leslie Neilson didn't an issue with comedy as he got older. In fact, it re-invigorated his entire career.
Personally I would love to see Eddie back to his best. He has had some peaks of late. Bowfinger and Dreamgirls provided some glimpses of what he is capable of, but he seems unable to produce consistantly anymore.

Whoopsy!

I love Trading Places and Beverley Hills Cop and used to watch Coming to America a lot when I was kid (Soul Glo!), and I think Bowfinger was vastly under rated and over looked. Especially considering that you have two of Americas greatest ever comedians in Murphy and Martin delivering in spades.

I'm not gonna start listing the dross that Murphy has starred in over recent years. It's just too depressing.

The rest are mostly meh. Coming to America is not bad. BHC is okay at chrimbo when my bro and I need something to relate to each other after football has been exhausted.
