Despite being mighty fine, the way his wife treated him in the first film i'd let the kidnappers hold on to her...

I thought the original was HEE-LARIOUS. A (surely deliberate?) parody of how paranoid Americans view foreigners/the outside world. I also loved the linear A-B plotting and how Big Liam oh-so-conveniently just happened to run into the right people ALL THE TIME. He arrives at the airport in Paris and just happens to run into the guy who kidnapped his daughter. He goes to the brothel and just happens to (literally) pick up the one drug-addled girl who just happens to know his daughter. And on and on it goes. It even has Leland Orser (that's Leland. Orser.) as a tough guy! Genius.

(Almost as funny as EMPIRE's po-faced review at the time which took this obvious piss-take way too seriously!)

Pure comedy gold, Taken makes The Transporter look like Die Hard. Heck, it makes The Transporter look like fecking Citizen Kane! I will look for this sequel, I will find this sequel, and I will laugh at this sequel!

When a film makes ten times its money thats you answer to a sequel. I loved the first film, and still laugh at the 'one star' rating from my trusted mag. Loving a film is like loving someone of the opposite sex, it is in the eyes of the beholder.

the only reason the first one was so successful was Liam Neeson. This was a B-Movie at best, with cheesy lines, stereotypic villains, action scenes that we all have seen before, and so on. Imagine Stallone or Statham in that role - that films would have bombed. But Neeson somehow managed to lift this into proper A-territory!

The first one was terrible, but fun, If this is the same I'll catch it on Bluray/DVD, but won't fork out the cash to see it at the cinema unless it gets some stellar reviews.

It has come to my attention that the first Taken film only got 1 star? I instantly start comparing it to the likes of Project X or Top Cat which got the same rating (deservedly). It's clearly better than that surely the fact that Liam Neeson is in it earns the film at least another star on top of that?!
