Finally achieve ownership of a Tom Thug strip. It appears that in the 90's (this one is a 1992 one) they altered the way the speech bubbles went on with a cellophane sheet going on the front and the bubbles being placed on that rather than directly onto the strip which probably saved quite a few errors.

Excellent stuff

I got this WH Smith exclusive last week-

It has a reprint of the very first issue in it.

Oh and the last ever issue of The Dandy will be released on December 4th, going to have to pick it up.

Fuck. I remember the release of the Dandy/Beano 50 Year anniversary annual (I'm sure that's one of the few I still own actually) like it was only yesterday. 25 years ago, Jesus wept I'm getting old .

I know, I remember that annual too, I have ones for the 60th and 70th anniversaries (bought them off eBay).

And now the Dandy is ending

Ok, the last ever print edition of The Dandy will be out on Tuesday, it's 75th anniversary. It'll be a digital comic only from then on. Now, I know it'll still be around but it's still very much the end of an era. I'll be buying it for sure although I'm annoyed it'll have a reprint of the first issue considering I just got that in the 75th anniversary special I posted above.

Speaking of the Dandy, has anyone seen this year's Dandy/Beano special in the shops? They bring them out every year but I haven't seen the latest.

There's this-

I've seen it in WH Smiths. As for a celebration of the anniversary, the individual annuals are handling that. The Dandy annual has new stories featuring old characters that have been booted from the comic. Also, characters like Desperate Dan, Korky the Cat and Bananaman all have their classic looks back as opposed to the crappy new looks. There is also this-

That's the one. My dad gets a copy every for Christmas, but I haven't seen it to buy yet. Got him the Art one a few weeks back, it's not bad at all.

At some point I am going to need to get into my parents loft, I have this somewhere up there. I must have about a hundred annuals up there.

There appear to be loads of Christmas strips out there but the scans are tiny an illegible.

I have that annual

I am using a comic reader then saving the page. I don't know how to make them any smaller, though, so full page ones are like this-

That was from the Christmas issue of the Beano from 1976, so it was the first Christmas issue after I was born. Obviously I was too young to read it back then

It's got a rather nice cover-

And inside, there's an advert for the Christmas issue, so as this cover says, this is only the 'Christmas is a-coming' issue, So, two weeks of Chrimbo stories

So, sadly ironic that The Dandy has had to cease printing paper comics due to dwindling circulation, yet when I want to buy a copy of the last one for old time's sake, I can't find one anywhere! Certainly not in the WH Smiths near work or home - and there seem to be very few independent newsagents left. Maybe I'll try Tescos this luncheon time.

On a plus side, as I was feeling a bit nostalgic for some reason, I went and bought the new Beano & Dandy annuals on BOGOF offer last night! Looking forward to seeing how things have changed!

Nice one Hans They changed the look of some of the characters last year but I think they've changed them back for the last annual and issue. And they looked horrible.

I can't find the last issue anywhere, either

That's horrific. There's no wonder their sales dwindled so much.

I know. And I though giving Korky round pupils in the late 80s was wrong. Even if it was more factually accurate, it just didn't look right

Of course, Bananaman has changed a couple of times since his introduction in 1980 but that new incarnation is just horrible. Here is his very first Christmas story from the first and back pages of Nutty issue number 46.
