So with everyone quite unashamedly and publically reading this erotic "literature", does the mean that the likes of Razzle and Fiesta will finally get the readership they deserve?

I was, kind of, wondering that today. After all the todo about porn mags on shelves, exactly how does that gel with the same shops pushing these at passing trade?

I think it's partly to do with the fact that these books don't have pictures?

It's also probably something to do with the fact that those magazines are aimed at men. For some reason, men looking at anything smutty are disgusting, but women reading Fifty Shades... is liberating.

It's all very depressing. In ye olde days, when a book caught on like wildfire and everyone on every bus and train was reading it it was Secret History or Wild Swans.

Now its DaVinci Code or knock-off porn-based fan-fiction.

An update on the facebook mums who fill up my boyfriends timeline.

I've just re-read books 1 and 2! Looking forward to re-reading number 3!

They are re-reading them now?! How can you read the same book twice in such a short space of time?!

The only books I've ever tended to re-read are the Harry Potters and I've read The Time Travellers Wife and Wuthering Heights a few times now. But that's over a period of time. Not three or so weeks!

I re-read books alot, like going back and catching points I've missed and just revisiting the stories. The only time I've ever put a book down and then re-read it was because I was in hospital it was late and I had nothing else to read.

This is my rant on my Facebook.

OK I've tried to resist ranting about 50 shades of Grey on Facebook but I'm sorry I've got to. Christian Grey is not a romantic hero his an abuser. Controlling who you see, who you're friends with and causing your partner to cry and freak out isn't romantic it's abuse. It most certainly isn't BDSM. If you want to read porn or bodice rippers fine be my guest read Anis Nin, Marquis de Sade or even some of the x rated Mills and Boon. You want to experiment with BDSM great fine read a decent informative book on it. But please do not read a book by a bored housewife whose idea of kink in her own bedroom is leaving the lights on, who wrote them as Twilight Fan Fiction. Then urge me to read it and tell me I'll fall in love with Christian Grey I won't!

Surprising I got quite a lot of likes.

Apparently, this is the kind of treat you would be in for if you read that book: "His pointer finger circled my puckered love cave. “Are you ready for this?” he mewled, smirking at me like a mother hamster about to eat her three-legged young."

There are so many things wrong with that sentence that I don't know where to start. I really hope that's from the parody.

There was a spare seat on the packed bus this morning but it would have meant sitting next a girl who was reading one of the books so I declined just in case there was a danger of the crap seeping into my personal space.......    Couldn't bear to be near one of those books!!

I've been more bemused by the entire phenomenon, but this is mostly because Mr Grey is the name of the alien from Dreamcatcher, so I've derived a lot of immature enjoyment from reading people's statuses with that in mind.

I've been tempted to write something to that effect but I doubt anyone would get it, and I'd incur the wrath of half my Facebook friends.

You know you have a problem with your book if associating it with Dreamcatcher improves it.

So does the popularity of this book indeed suggest that all women really want is an abusive, threatening individual who treat them as a belonging rather than a person?

Shit. No wonder nice guys finish last. Damn, here I was trying to be a sensitive, caring guy, and all I needed to do was be a bastard.

I'm waiting for the first case of domestic abuse to cite Fifty Shades as a defence. Then the ladies who read it might change their tune.

So does the popularity of this book indeed suggest that all women really want is an abusive, threatening individual who treat them as a belonging rather than a person?

Apparently so.

Maybe this is why I'm single, I've been wanting the wrong thing.

Shit. No wonder nice guys finish last. Damn, here I was trying to be a sensitive, caring guy, and all I needed to do was be a bastard.

C'mon now homer, you know as well as I do that it's not domestic abuse if it's perpetrated by a billionaire.

The more I hear about Mr. Grey the more I'm convinced he'd be on a register if he actually existed.

I feel like saying "Do you know what you are asking for??"

Instruction manual? Isn't it more the equivalent of the theory that giving their misbehaving technology a good thump will set it right?

To paraphrase Mrs Merton, "So, what made you put up with such a level of domestic abuse from billionaire Mr Grey?"

Now off you toddle and find the nearest possessive, emotionally and physically abusive man and you will be set for life. I bet that is a comfort.
