I also made the mistake of jokingly referring to it in an assessment and it was later used against me by the incompetent bitch I'd tried to help by doing the job that needed to be done, not the cock-up of an ignorant mess she'd gone with (without, I might, taking any of the credit for the correct result going to her - she knew, that was all that mattered to her).

 Childhood rhymes do come in handy. I always recite '30 days have November...' in my head to work out the number of days in any month. Always. But the 'i before e except immediately after c' thing just seems to confuse me more!

Fun fact: I use my knuckles to remember the days of each month. So, make your hands into a fist, and starting with the little knuckle on your left hand, the knuckle is January (31), the gap is February (obviously 28, cos everyone knows that) the next knuckle March (31), gap April (30), knuckle May (31), gap June (30), knuckle July (31), right hand little knuckle August (31), gap September (30), knuckle October (31), gap November (30), knuckle of the middle finger on your right hand December (31).

It seems more complicated than it is, but when people ask me how many days there are in a given month, and I start moving my hand over the opposing hand's knuckles like braille, that's why...

If you take the above statement on it's own (which is the phrase that most people were taught), there are 21 times as many words that don't follow the rule as actually do!!! Although, there is some argument about this figure as the original rhyme had caveats.
