Just got it on Blur Ray yesterday, looking forward to watching it. It's by no means perfect, a lot of flaws, but it has some incredible visuals and a look and vibe that's like no other film.

I like some of the soundtrack, but aside from that have always thought it was a pretty bad adaptation. Could have been amazing.

I wonder what the planned Ridley Scott version would have ended up like? He was going to make it until his brother died, he said it was going to be very much in the direction of Star Wars.

Yeah apart from the Giger concepts little remains of it. Well outside those stories about trying to work with Salvador Dali who was beyond eccentric apparently. Some info:

Giger's concept for Dune were absolutely barmy! I think at one point he drew a bridge with thousand's of penis' on it or something!

I believe they may indeed be penises.

Nothing to see here.

I love the David Lynch version of Dune. Fuck the possible Ridley Scott Star Wars version! This is not just an adaption of the book,
it's a fucking David Lynch film and probably the only big sci-fi he will ever do. The movie had about an hour or more cut from it and that is the reason why some people don't understand the plot. I think what remains is an excellent movie with a great cast, stunning visuals, some of the best sets ever and a great soundtrack. The blu-ray is a fantastic transfer that breathes new life and detail into it that I have never seen before! An overlooked sci-fi masterpiece!

It doesn't do justice to the monumental book but it is entertaining in its own right. The soundtrack I have there and is good too. I thought I heard once that Lynch originally had 8 hours of shots from it but it got butchered down to 2 hours or so, which is a shame.

The definitive Dune film has yet to be made though (the series was ok'ish but still fell woefully short imo), perhaps someone will take it on again soon - after all, they said LOTR was unfilmable, yet Jackson disproved that brilliantly.
