The main underdogs.
Great home form and a very good team/sqaud set-up,enhanced today by the capture of Ajax's Anita.

IMO been a good transfer season already. Who you got down as the best transfer business so far? I'd be going:

  1. Kagawa (Utd)
  2. Carzola (Arsenal)
  3. Rodwell (City)
  4. Allen (Liverpool)
  5. Hoilett (QPR)
  6. El Ahmadi (Villa)
  7. RvP (Utd)
  8. Pogrebnyak (Reading)
  9. Sigurdsson (Spurs)
  10. Oscar (Chelsea)
  11. Naismith (Everton)
  12. Lukaku (WBA on loan)

For the drop:

18. WBA
19. Norwich
20. Reading

I reckon the title will go right to the wire again, with MU pipping it. Would rather see City win it, mind.

1) Man U (I think the RVP signing will be just enough to edge it)
2) Man C
3) Arsenal
4) Chelsea
5) Liverpool
6) Newcastle
7) Tottenham

18) WHU
19) Reading
20) Southampton

Dissapointed RVP left Arsenal to be honest, but I think it's probably going to make the Premiership a bit more exciting (although to be fair, despite disliking a lot of the Premiership shenanigans, last season was pretty epic)
I expect Wenger to push more this season, despite losing RVP, I don't agree that Man City will find it toughter and will have added pressure, or what I keep reading that teams will be more determined to shoot them down (they were last season but it made little effect)
I think Chelsea will start badly, lightbulb head will be shown the door btuthey'll pick up after Christmas just pipping the scousers to 4th spot.
Tottenham will go backwards, proving they are a 1 season wonder, not before AVB is sacked for calling Gareth Bale "Gary" and King Harry Redknapp is brought in only to lose the last 6 games of the season without scoring, as they haven't any strikers. They'll be beaten to that last Euro spot by Newcastle, who continue to play good football without winning any games.

Apart from the relegation battle, the rest of the teams, Aston Villa, Everton, Stoke, Fulham etc will continue to bore us with no hope of anything, other than a good Carling Cup run, and as usual, outside the Top 4 and bottom 3 of the Premiership, the best and most exciting football will continue to happen in the lower leagues.

I think Arsenal will struggle to make the top 4, Stoke will struggle to pass, Liverpool will struggle to make sense of their Assets and Liabilities book, Kenwright will struggle to sell, Villa will struggle to keep their fans awake, Swansea will struggle to keep traveling fans awake, I'll struggle to make back last season's gambling losses, Alan Green will struggle to contain his ire at the first refereeing blunder, and upon completing his mission to redefine the 'Makelele' role Fellaini will ascend to the heavens and will become but a myth. Or a Chelsea player.

Oh and they'll be loads of shirt pulling, diving, official haranguing, twitter blunders, Joey Barton, chanting cunts, pouting, camera mugging, but hopefully no heart attacks.

Can't wait!

Anita to Newcastle (announced today) is another very good signing. Looks comfortable in a number of positions and a bargain at 8m. (Ajax are the only feeder club worse than Arsenal though, sob.)

I couldn't choose, don't judge me .

I think it'll be between 4 teams for 5th and 6th. If they play anything like they did last year I fancy Newcastle to nab 5th but I genuinely can't choose which of those 3 I fancy for 6th. My preference is Everton, my first live match was watching Everton drub Crystal Palace at Goodison so I've always had a soft spot for the toffee's. Plus, I want to see you with an Everton av again .

I think the PL is strengthening, which is good. Would love to see a 3way fight for first and tight 4-8.

Should be better set for CL this season. As someone said in another thread, be interesting to see how PSG get on. And all that spend in Russia has to pay off sometime, you'd say.

Thanks

I actually think Everton will be better this season having spent some of the money Rodwell has generated.

My predictions:-

01. Manchester City
02. Chelsea
03. Manchester Utd

Trust me mate, Chelsea will not finish in the top 2; Arsenal will most probably finish 4th, with Chelsea 3rd. And my money is on United regaining the premier league crown. I am hardly writing Manchester Utd off, dude!

I did post that before the Van Persie deal was announced, I think. If he stays fit then that will help your cause a great deal. Plus, Kagawa and Cleverley together in your midfield gives me a mild boner. However, I think Manchester City have the better squad and will be galvanised by their success last season. I don't think the championship will go to the last day this year.

As for Chelsea, I think that they could grind out a great run if everything clicks into gear early. Torres was starting to look a bit sharper towards the end of last season and over the European Championships and he no longer has the formidable shadow of Drogba hanging over him. I think he could fly if he hits form early. I'm really excited about seeing Oscar lighting up the Premiership this season, Hazard doesn't look too shoddy and I really rate Juan Mata very highly indeed. I take your points about an ageing defence but it is, nonetheless, experienced and showed during their Champions League campaign that, if well-drilled, they could be extremely disciplined and hard to break down. Plus, let us be fair, Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra are no spring chickens either!

quote:

ORIGINAL: Goodfella

8. Aston Villa

If Aston Villa finish 8th, I'll chew my own nob off! Lambert's a decent young(ish) manager but he's inherited an extraordinarily weak team who finished last season in near free-fall and with a chairman seemingly unwilling to dig deep into his pockets.

To be honest, I've been toying with the idea of putting a tenner on them getting relegated, although I am slightly disturbed that Robbie Savage seems to agree with me!

Seconded, that was nasty. Knee appeared to twist in and then back out, it's easy to be cynical at first but his hand went up straight away and despite a real attempt to get back on it's feet it wasn't happening.

Does Howard Webb realise which side of Manchester he's refereeing today by the way? I mean he just gave a penalty to the side that don't play in red!
