There's those guys who do movies for the audiences like clash of titans or percy jackson, Bad movies only financed because they could probably make a profit.

And there's those movies that have low budget's and just do shity things with the excuse they don't have much...

For me a movie either with low or high budget as to be for the viewer, the individual guy who's sitting there wanting to feel something, get away from there and experience amazing things. This guy doesn't want to sit and see crap.

Are you asking do people prefer good films to bad films? That's kind of what it sounds like.

I think I agree with you. Good films tend to be better than bad ones.

I also prefer good films, but paradoxically a lot of people tend to think they're bad films.

i think you're starting to get the point... There are those movies that are only made to sell, an there is audience for them (people who go see it and enjoy it a lot). And there are those that are "strange" like the ordinary viewer likes to say: low budget movies that are based basically in dialogues, and not sets, special effects, or great castings..

Not exactly the most thunderously original of points, Filipe, but God bless you anyway.

So some films are bid budget and have big sets, special effects and great casting, other films are strange and low budget and are based in dialogues. I think this is mainly true but have you considered that also sometimes there are films that are about aliens and also some films are just about ordinary family life. These films can often include dialogue and special effects as well as good or great casting decisions.

I'm going to suggest it in Area 51.

In all seriousness I think most people like all sorts of different movies including guilty pleasures. Although for this viewer you cant beat good quality Sci fi.

2001 - I still will not be swerved that it has massive pacing problems and the majority of the scenes go on far too long with the exception of the HAL portion of the film.

Is the question here, "Do we care about the intentions of the film makers, if the end product entertains us?"?

As in, if a film maker sets out to make a film with a real message or with real meaning or whatever, in the name of art, with a tiny budget, but no one goes to see it or it entertains no one, has he succeeded? If the end product does entertain and finds an audience, are the film makers intentions still considered, or do the masses simply enjoy the film on a very basic level of "That was an enjoyable story and passed 90 minutes of my life"? If that's the case, and no one in the audience gives a fuck about the directors intentions, has he succeeded? Do we care if we get some kind of entertainment?

On the flip side, if a film maker is making a movie who's sole purpose is to entertain with spectacle and show, with an end goal of banking dollars, does that make him less of an 'artist'? A good example of that being Michael Bay I guess. I mean, for me personally, I've enjoyed most of his films and I acknowledge they're not aiming to strike a chord of deep meaning with an audience, but I dont think Bay is any less of an artist, because that man can direct the shit out of films and orchestrate chaos better than most. I consider him an artist, just one not really putting much meaning behind the images/stories he creates. Do we care if someone takes that approach to film making if what we have is an entertaining end product?

I dunno, behind Filipe's initial (admittdly confusing) question there may be a discussion worthy of Movie Musings. Or maybe he does just want to know if we like good or bad films? I'll suggest I like good films, but also some bad ones... but they're the kind of bad ones Donovan thinks are good, so they may well be good and not bad.

Quality being the operative word. I prefer my Sci Fi to not have a ten minute light show at the end.
I realise I am in a massive minority in this opinion.

I also found the only other Kubrick film I've seen to be pretty dull too (Eyes Wide shut)
