 Currently working in the IT department of an accountancy firm in Dublin, as an intern. Have applied for Masters in computer science which I hopes to start this September. I'll be doing some courses regardless.

 I'm in a bit of a strange place at the moment, I'm training as an editor and I've taken on work for an author, for a couple of projects, that won't make me any money but will open doors.

I've also been given a role in a film, an intrinsic to the plot film. Apparently the director is also re-thinking various things and I may end up with more of a role than I thought before. This is a pilot film for a future TV series, it's distributed by Warner Bros. Again though, because it's a pilot, there's bugger all money in it; so while I won't get paid for this, if I gets picked up as a series...

I've also been contacted today by an old teaching agency asking me if I'm available.

So plenty of potential, but nothing solid.

Securing Stuff - 5%

I'm pretty happy in my job.

 I'm one of those over-pensioned and overpaid civil servants that the Daily Mail loves to hate.  Well, apart from the bit about pension and pay.  Up until the end of last year I worked in writing environmental policy and legislation, now I'm in the field of urban regeneration, which is quite the challenge in these economic times.  While I was sad to leave the last post (loved writing policy), the new job is far more interesting and there's a real sense of achievement when you see the outcome of the projects.

 Civil servant, where I analyse stuff, produce official statistics and ensure the methodological content of our research reports are not wrapped up in unsound bollocks, all whilst dodging the yearly bullet that is the organisational review. Another year and I reckon I'll be ready to look for a grade 7 post in another department. This does all get in the way of getting the book in my head down on paper though. Which is a ball-ache.

I work for a firm that manufactures subsea tree systems for the oil industry. Mechanical engineer (machinist/craftsman) I suppose is the title.

I work part-time (3 days a week) in a warehouse, packing consumer goods (potato chips, sweets, ginger beer, baby care products, lip balm). I also do volunteer work one day a week at a charity shop, minding the cash register.

I have a 3-day weekend.

Ok ok, so im approaching the end of my MSc and looking to go into industry afterwards. I personally dont want to do a phd (i dont think i could handle it, ive really struggled when my experiments go wrong) but having said that, I said i didnt want to do a masters. I appreciate im late into applications for September- i struggled a lot managing other priorites with research stuff, but how does one go about getting "industry experience" for CV building and career development.

Though I have a job, I dont want to be in retail for longer than I have to and im keen to get on a career ladder. Suggestions welcome

I'd still apply even if they are for undergrads - just add an enthusiastic covering letter emphasising your additional commitment led to a higher educational level. And ask about the start times - many might be advertising now to catch undergrads leaving courses, but not necessarily starting now (most undergrads would appreciate some kind of break first). Can't hurt to ask and show the kind of interest they should appreciate?
