I was thinking of that as more of a planning thread and seeking interest type discussion.

Now the countries/films are up, I thought it could pretty much move over here.

Are we keeping the discussion thread for, uh, discussion?

I read that in the voice of Mayor Quimby from The Simpsons for some reason.

I'm still getting over Elab choosing a Bergman film.

Nice work on the thread, Elab - I did listen to the theme.

Very important that theme!

I'm surprised I've avoided vote whore accusations on that one tbh

I like our theme tune. It's better than a few of the films.

I've seen 12 overall but only own 7. Lots to be added to lovefilm although I point blank refuse to pollute my household with Breathless. If the quality of the films I haven't seen is as bad as some of those I have, I'll be lucky to scrape together a top 5.

Good work people!

Some interesting looking fare there...and Breathless (I'm with Gimli, loathe that film as well).

Will sit through it again all the same, and there's still 10 there I haven't seen anyway.

Looking forward to checking out the entries from the Czechs & the Poles as all 4 films are relatively new to me. Aside from my own, Romania looks pretty strong (although they are both from the same director).

Does Pans Labyrinth count as Spain? I know it has a Spanish setting & context, but aren't the crew & the finance predominantly Mexican?

Cheers for all the work you've done Elab.

It was discussed in the other thread to make sure everyone was OK with it. The key with Eurovision is that the nationality of the creatives is irrelevant - so it doesn't matter that they're Mexican. Hence us entering an Australian, Jamie Cullum writing for Germany and Canadian Celine Dion winning for Switzerland.

The Romanian films are from different directors though? It's certainly one of the countries where there is a strong possibility of them both making my list.

I'll be another one that loathes Breathless I'm afraid. I hope Gimli doesn't find a top 10 as hard as currently expected, though

Wow, a lot of hatred for Breathless. I don't mind it as much as you lot but whether it'll end up on my Top 10... well, it's dubious.

Yeah, why all the dislike for Breatless?

Out of all the eleven I've seen, I can barely remember Closely Observed Trains or Amelie, so it will be nice to give them a rewatch.

Got a feeling my France is going to do an UK at this rate .

Amelie was a shoo-in for me when I got France and it would have been strange not nominating a New Wave film so I went for the most obvious. Looks like that's gonna bite me on the arse now you bunch of philestines .

I knew I should have voted for District 13 instead

I liked District 13. That bit near the start where he goes through the little window at the top of the door was brilliant.

4 Months, 3 Weeks, & 2 Days was directed by Cristian Mungiu

The Death of Mr Lazarescu was directed by Cristi Puiu.

That's a couple that have spoken highly of Romania's entries.

And elab questioned whether I was serious with my choice...!

So in the the grand tradition of Eurovision, who's going to be doing the chummy mutual 12 point back slap? Or do we not have to worry about it seeing as nobody had Greece or Cyprus.

I think, sadly, Poland is the only one with a shot of getting no points. I hope I'm wrong, but I can see everyone else having at least one film that does really well.

Kanal is one of the greatest films ever made - it'd be a travesty for it not to get any points.

I guess my closest for a chummy back-slap would be Denmark - but I've seen Riget and The Bridge and those people hate each other.
