Which ones that directorscut? The 3D? So everyone who's bought a DVD gets their ass electrocuted for stupidity right? Nice one.

there's no "directors cut" of the movie, just the deleted scenes, and there never will be either ..... but don't hold me on that

bought the single BRdisk version, but got it changed for the 3disk BR version, and watched the whole making of doc!!

sure, the movie could have been better in a few things, but the more i think about the movie, the more i like it!

That engineer at the beginning, couldn't he of just let some of his blood fall in the water instead killing himself?

I'd say he talks fairly of the film. 7.5/10 is about what i'd give it too.

I agree and id give it about that rating as well. Its a good film prevented from being a great one by a rather poor script.

Long blog that tears the logic of the film apart. Well worth reading.

Almost as soon as the blog begins the writer asks what was going on with the creatures, with no understanding whatsoever that the reason the creatures are so different to each other is the 'goo' is trying to evolve into life forms and mutates into whatever it mutates into according to what is available to it to 'infect' like a virus observed in a petri dish, mutating until it eventually ends up in a form that can survive independently. The humans in the film are the equivalent of cells in that petri dish being attacked by a virus', Missing that point entirely, bit hard to take seriously one fucking word of the blog seriously, if you ask me.

Criticisms of the dialogue script and character motivation may or may not be valid, but to absolutely not even see what is happening in the film and not be able to draw any conclusions about it at all, that's idiotic, because the original film states very clearly the creature has some of the attributes of a virus. Prometheus has as it's threat A FUCKING VIRUS!!! .A virus that is a parasite, that invades the human bodies in various ways, goes through several permutations of hosts, until at the end of the film it is well on the way to being the creature subsequently described as having virus like attributes and having amazing capacities of survival instinct by Ash (android) (a quality in Doctor Shaw, it's 'mother', remarked upon by David (android) and in themes and incidents and the dramatic functions of the characters, the connections between Prometheus and the original film are presented, with some dots to be joined by the audience).

The blog referred to basically goes WAH! WAH! I don't understand the film WAH! WAH! a writer of LOST was involved, I DIDN'T LIKE LOST EITHER, WAH! WAH!

Amusing, but saying the film doesn't explain why it matters that Weyland was Vickers' dad, for example, is silly. I know that it;s a reference to Prometheus being a disappointment to his creator and punishing him. Weyland disappointed with his creation, his creation not doing exactly what he wants, and punishes for it with his bitterness. It's not explicit, but it's hinted at because as 'creative; as I can be when trying to #make meaning' in a film, I didn;t feel it was too much of a stretch to think about the content of the film as various spins, enlargements and relfections of the themes of the story the film was named after, given Gods don't exist and myths are about exploring the follies of humanity, and the film shows humans involved in folly. Yadder yadder yadder as I bang the same drum, etc

I'm frustrated with Prometheus. It had so much hype in my circle of friends. But I did not like it when I watched it. Nothing the characters did made any sense:

The robot without feelings falls in love with a woman.

The robot then risks her life because he wants to preserve the parasite inside her. Why? No reason.

The expedition is searching for life, but the biologist wants to return to the ship when they find a 2000 year old corpse.

The geologist also wants to return to the ship rather than look at rocks.

The geologist then gets lost despite being in charge of the mapping device.

The top boss pays for the expedition, but pretends he's dead and hides on the ship. Why? No reason.

The leader of the expedition refuses to cooperate with either the robot or the archaeologists - even though they all want the same thing.

The alien tries to kill everyone, so the surviving characters decide to go to the alien's home planet to talk to them.

As explained he is near death and is placed in cyrosleep to keep him alive as long as possible.

With you on that, however I am willing to give it another go to try and make sense of some parts of the story (and its worth a watch again just for the opening sequence ).

http://www.gavinrothery.com/my-blog/2012/6/11/so-what-was-wrong-with-prometheus.html

hmmm ..... some of it yeah, like the logic arguments .....

but most of his arguments he's making is that he thinks it's all PRECISE arguments ..... like why the engineers were running AWAY from something? who says they were running AWAY ..... they could have been running TOO the ampule room to stop whatever it was from happenning!

like the FIFIELD argument ..... he think he dies from being splashed with acid and his helmet melting onto his head, then falling into the ampule oil ..... who says he dies? same as the "squalien" that shaw gave birth too ..... that dies and turns into a zombie, and not given the fact it multiplies in size and obviously still alive and trying to beat the door down!

most of the questions in the movie are CONJECTURE and not FACT, that's why they ask these questions and not tell the audience .....

i laughed at his question of why the engineer came back for shaw ..... wouldn't you be pissed off about getting your spaceship punk'd out and crash???

unlike ALIEN, there are THREE different alien story strands going on ..... the DAVID story arc, where he's experimenting with holloway, definately knowing about shaw's inability with having children and their relationship, and seeing where it leads hoping for some sort of cure or whatnot for old man weyland. he dosn't follow up on this because he's had his head ripped off and the prometheus is in a million bits! that leads to the SECOND strand, the aforementions "squalien" that nobbles the engineer something horrible ..... ET VOILA MEET MR DEACON! and third is the fifield arc .....

my final argument is this ..... was it an INVITAVION ..... or going back to the original ALIEN ..... A WARNING???

THE CHOICE ..... IS YOURS

Got to say I really am surprised that Prometheus didn't get a BAFTA or Oscar nomination for Production Design or Cinematography.

Good point, although awards are BS so i wouldn't be too concerned.

This still ranks as one of the best blu rays released during 2012 (the 3D release)

I totally agree.
It would have been nice to have been nominated in those categories but hey-ho.
I don't have a Blu Ray player yet, though I'm strongly considering buying one just to watch Prometheus and Furious Gods.
Sad I know.
I've been trying to make a list of other Blu Ray films I would buy and there really aren't that many.

There are a lot of great blu ray titlles out there but it depends of course on your taste in film.

Stay away from 3D titles though as they are just pointless gimmickery that ruin films.

No I'm with you on that. It was one of the most beautifully shot films I have ever scene. I am sure the Icelandic Tourist Board must be pretty happy with themselves.

But you are on the money also with the design elements and even the FX, which I thought was pretty good.

I enjoyed Prometheus. Yes it has flaws, but it was ambitious and quite interesting. Michael Fassbender's David android is the highlight for me and will go down in cinematic history's Pantheon of Robots (if there is such a thing).

I rewatched this in 3D with a mate last night (god i've seen this movie so many times now). My friend had not seen it before and i was pleased to hear him describe it as an 'awesome movie' LOL. Well it's equal parts awesome and terrible, but i guess that's part of its charm. At the end he was like 'So is there going to be a Prometheus 2?' and I'm like Ummmmmm.
