The first book that scared me was Night of the Living Dummy (Goosebumps #07) I was eight.

I love Are You Afraid if the Dark?

Stop making me feel old.

The first piece of literature that scared me was A School Story. I was at the original reading.

The first book that scared me was The Haunted School (Goosebumps #58 or something). I still think it's the scariest he wrote.

I prefer his earlier, classic work. By the time he reached #47 he was all about the money.

I used to love the Goosebumps books, the first one I read, I think was Say Cheese and Die, which I borrowed from a classmate (a girl!) when I was about 8 or 9 (just checked out Amazon and it came out in 93, so she lent it to me a couple of years after it was out)

You hipster, you.

Watership Down - terrifying.

Supernatural - some great episodes.

Where Are You Going... - absolutely chilling and so upsetting. Should be higher.

Pirates - Oh Gimli.

Island of Doctor Moreau - love the blurb! Great book too, completely forgot about it when writing the list.

I didn't even have to say Gimli's name for everyone to know who voted for Pirates.

Where Are You Going... was a good read.

Paint It Black is a fucking awesome song. Good pick, whoever thought of it.

Hadn't thought of including Paint It Black, or any songs for that matter. Shoulda stuck some Nice Cave in somewhere.
Resident Evil 4 - They aren't zombies . I should've stuck my top 3 video games in positions 1-3, because I know only the top one's making the list.

Rinc. It is an amazing song, just not one that ever struck me as horror.

I've never played it. I loved the first two, but was so disappointed by the third I didn't bother with the fourth.

The fourth plays completely differently to 1-3, and would come in my top three if I were asked to list my favourite video games. Avoid any of the follow-ups, they're shit.

Resident Evil 4 is great. Not as scary as the first though.

Perfect Blue, Inland Empire and Panorama of Hell are all superb. Great start to the list, a few titles I haven't seen or read which I'd like to check out.

Now if you will excuse me I just finished watching Satantango and I seriously need to lie down and get some sleep.

I think it was the first song that came to mind for this list. Partly because I first fell in love with it when it ended The Devil's Advocate and partly because some of the lyrics are pretty dark. Plus it's got a sound that could quite easily be for a song about monsters, zombies, ghosts, Pirates of the Caribbean films etc.

You nominated some amazing sounding graphic novels. I read one of the comics the other day (no spoilers as it missed out on the 400) Abstraction. A brilliant mind-fuck.

Kill Baby Kill and Resident Evil 4 would probably be higher if I'd remembered to send a list in.

I really need to watch Perfect Blue and Inland Empire.

I did until Gimli's list came in. Then I had to do a frantic re-ordering to fit some music in mine.

Interview with the Vampire - Not a fan
Perfect Blue - Superb. Was I the only who voted for it?
Pirates of The Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl - The only one in the series I can stand.
Inland Empire - Bewildering, but in a good way. Didn't like it as much as I'd hoped, needs a rewatch.
Paint It, Black - Would make my Top 5 Rolling Stones songs.. maybe
Resident Evil 4 - Shit I should have voted for it! Gahh and Dead Space!

Watership's down great but not one I'd think of as a horror. Can't remember much of Halloween II, Interview's a bit naff.

Can't believe no one else voted for Supernatural, and yes, Pirates was me! Aresenis is fantastic. Off to see of Lovefilm has Kill, Baby , Kill.

You commented on Candle Cove in page two of the Spooky Stories thread...

I didn't. Unless it's that Korean comic thingy.

I read that page again and completely missed that comment

Shows how much it didn't bother me, because I read Candle Cove a few hours back and had no recollection of reading it a year ago.
