King Kong is a damn fine film
Blue Velvet I've never loved, but it's pretty good
Dracula is a good twenty minutes followed by a bunch of people standing around the same set talking for an hour
Woman in Black is great, I wonder if the latest film will be higher
The Changeling should be much higher
The Old Dark House is great fun

Is that because you vetoed any list to have it on?

I don't actually remember it being on any lists. I'd have to check the emails for definite though.

My list was all 4 star brilliance or higher. I gave WIB a mere 3!

Pet Sematary - Decent little King adaptation, with a cool Ramones theme song. There's a sort of blooper in there in which Dale Midkiff brutally slams his head on a chest of drawers for reals.

Blue Velvet - Not horror but to see it on any list is a good thing

Wuthering Heights - My dad is a Kate Bush fanatic but that never rubbed off on me. I like some her songs just fine, though.

I was never a really big fan of it. One weird thing I've noticed about it is a lot of people saying they didn't like it until they had kids, and now they think it's the most terrifying film ever. Fuckers should try watching Would You Kill a Child?

That poster for The Funhouse, why is there jizz dripping from the vampire's (assuming it's a vampire) mouth?

As for the list, the only film I've seen in the last 50 entries or so is Blue Velvet. And it's amazing.

Edit: Okay scratch that, I've seen Barton Fink as well. And Barton Fink is also amazing. Go figure.

Wait, I must have missed that entry I love A Clockwork Orange as well.

Treehouse of Horror VI is amazing. Sweeney Todd isn't as bad as some other of Burton's recent films but still really average.

Rats in the Walls - A damn fine story, but hopefully there's lots more Lovecraft to come
Barton Fink - one of the Coens' best
Treehouse of Horror VI - Good stuff, I imagine this got in mostly because of the Nightmare on Elm Street pistache
The Tell-Tale Heart - A great, great short story.
The Shadow Over Innsmouth - Fantastic
Sweeny Todd - The best Burton in the last ten years or so
The Fall Of The House Of Usher - Not as good as Tell-Tale Heart

Sweeny Todd - I liked it.

Headless Horseman - wicked.

Tell Tale Heart - fantastic (House of Usher is good too).

IT - the first half is terrifying. The second half is stupid.

You mean the underage gangbang and stuff?

My problem with King as a novelist is that there's often moments of brilliance, but I think he drags the arse out of things a lot of the time and loses his way. In general I prefer his short stories, especially The Reach.

Yep, that part is a load of crap. It's so ridiculous, I ended up forgetting how scary the first half had been.

I like King a lot in terms on entertainment, he's a good story teller - I usually read the Stand every exam season as its such good escapism - but I agree, there are so many faults with his writing.

The Colour Out Of Space - Good stuff
It - First half is amazing, second half is just...what?
Manhunter - A great thriller, but I still prefer Lambs
The Weir - Decent
The Sandman - Glad this made it in
Silent Hill 2 - FUCK YES

I completely forgot about The Weir when writing my list - glad it see it made it.

The Sandman is amazing. Great little animation.

Edward Scissorhands - a film I'm really fond of.

It is great, but like a lot of his novels, King can't think of a decent way to end it, so just resorts to mumbo-jumbo.

I was thinking of putting this in Small Screen, but I reckon I'll get the answer in here quicker - there was a season of horror films that the BBC used to show late on Friday or Saturday nights during the early/mid '90s. They were always preceded by an introduction by a sinister character who was dressed up like some kind of demon/devil - it was like a rubbery purple mask he had on, and I'm sure he was based in either a fairground or a dining room in a castle.

Any idea who/what this was?

We did the cult list, but I mean a full on weird list, no worries about mainstream, or if something qualifies. One big list for weird cinema, and maybe expand it so it can include literature and stuff like this list. Combine horror, sci-fi, fantasy, general cult, all in one big poll.
