I know summer movie season has only been in swing for about a month but with today's release of the Les Miserables trailer, I was trying to work out what the big Oscar films will be. I think this years The Artist and The King's Speech will actually be Les Miserables. Seems like the kind of film which will attract and win tonnes of awards cos it's so crowd pleasing and the academy will probably love it.

What other films do you think will make up this years Oscar bait?

I think it is far too early to tell. There will be more films released at the end of the year with the intention of nabbing a nod or two that we don't really know much about yet.

Yeah, the thing with both King's Speech and The Artist is that at the start of the year nobody really considered them as Oscar winners. I reckon the same will apply this year.

I suspect The Master will do well if its being released around 'baitin' time.

I'd agree that Les Miserables looks like a good bet, havig also watched the trailer the other day.

I haven't really bought any film magazines regularly for a while so not completely up to date in my knowledge of what's coming out this year, especially towards the end of it. I notice that there's an adaption of Life of Pi meant to be coming out, directed by Ang Lee. Given it's a very highly rated book, that could be a contender come Oscar time, as could The Great Gatsby.

Not sure what's coming out at the start of next year though, I'd have thought you'd get some real possible Oscar winners out around that time.
