RISE OF PLANET OF APES-EXTREMELY ENTERTAINING HOLLYWOOD HOKUM =THE APE RIOTS IN FRISCO Usman Latif Khawaja The movie is not a remake of the 60s classic but a prequel, it is a well written, well directed science fiction fantasy about a medical experiment and a relevant contemporary comment on genetic engineering, it is meaningful and thought provoking; everything that no other big budget movie has been for a while and yet it grips you with its skilful storytelling from start to finish. The real stars are the apes and Caesar[Andy Serkis ]playing the central ape character is bafflingly good in his bravura with astonishing intuitive details of spontaneous animal behaviour ,his routine observations of human life and silent eyes are poetically expressive of his loss and deprivation , with the city of San Francisco shot crisply by the director in some really ingenious shots that are truly mind boggling and original; this is the best movie easily so far this year, and the movie took me by total surprise as it was neither dark nor light just right enough to be categorized as good cinema and that is so rare today . Ignore the human cast as they are just appendages ;see the apes and the delightful -'circus orang-utan' and the grand and eloquently operatic ''ape riot''over the Golden Gate bridge is so well orchestrated you will surely be mesmerized by it, unless you are a'' bourgeois pseudo cynical elitist ''or a critic who has not been paid by the marketeers .
