Hmm, I'd never really thought about it before. Not sure I like the idea of people praying and singing hymns though, although I suppose it's what the family wants to do more than anything. I like Funky's idea of coming back as a tree though

As for music, the jokey one's (It's My Party And I'll Cry If I Want To etc.) are fine, but I reckon I'd go for something like Lauren's Walking by Badalamenti, or The Letter That Never Came by Thomas Newman. I'm like Chief, I want people to be beside themselves with grief. And then all get royally battered afterwards.

I'm with Homer that I think a funeral should be a place of mourning and remembrance can come later.
I would have a religious service at my local Kingdom Hall which will include songs no doubt about the resurrection hope, followed by a trip to the crematorium where they can burn me. Havent thought about a song for here though

Well, if you insist on arriving at the house lube-free...

But what about all the kids who've died cruelly young, who requested that people wear bright clothes, take their favourite teddy bears/toys etc? It doesn't mean that no one's mourning, as Funky said on the previous page.

I always get there after an 8 mile, mostly uphill, cycle ride, so I'm replete with natural lube.

Spit helps, too.

Well, definitely a humanist ceremony for me.  As for how it's celebrated, I'll leave that up to the individual.  As long as not everyone is there to mourn and there is still time for a few nostalgic chuckles from the gathered, I'll be happy.  Well, I won't really as I'll be dead and therefore incapable of any emotions.  No mournful funeral procession, unless it's a New Orleans style affair (and only playing the upbeat jazz they play after the funeral).  Really, just get everyone into the room, press the button that drops me in the flames, then have some enjoyable reminiscing and a few jars.

As for music, I've a couple of ideas.  At the start, I want Elgar's Sospiri played to put people into a suitably reflective mood (if you don't know the piece, google it - it's beautiful).  Then end with Eels' "Hey Man, Now You're Really Living".

I know of a little boy who died very young 6ish I think and they used We're following the leader from Peter Pan as one of the songs.

I think a good humanist ceremony can allow you to do both, mourn & celebrate. At my Nan's funeral we knew we were coming to say goodbye to someone we loved dearly and mourned for. But we were also celebrating having know her, her influence, her love and the memories she was leaving us with.

There were lots of tears and there was some laughter just the way she wanted it.

I dunno what kind of tone I want to go with for my funeral, on the one hand they are meant to be sad affairs, on the other hand I've always been the joker of my various friendship groups, so a more upbeat tone for mine would be more...apt, maybe? I don't want to pick a bunch of depressing dirges when being cremated to this fits my personality more.

In terms of songs I've seriously considered going out to (in order of seriousness):

Dream Theater-The Spirit Carries On
The Beatles-The End
Voltaire-Death Death (Devil Devil Devil Devil Evil Evil Evil Evil Song)

hmmm

The devestating combo of Hurt - Johnny Cash version and Bright Eyes from Watership Down.  That should get everyone blubbing their goddamn eyes out.

I went to a funeral where they asked me to play Bright Eyes on the piano - the deceased had donated their corneas...

Other than jokely saying I'd have Another One Bites the Dust play, I have absolutely no feelings whatsoever on my own funeral, perhaps other than not wanting my family to spend anything more than the bare minimum in terms of disposal.

I'd want a nice low-key funeral, nothing religious either. Maybe a re-enactment of Starship Troopers, that would be sweet...

Obviously I'd have a Power Point presentation, what great event doesn't; first slide a graph showing Life (amount) plotted against Time.

So many people say, "I want my funeral to be a celebration of my life, not a commiseration of my death'. Fair enough, but that's not really a funeral, but a commemoration. A funeral is a time for mourning, to actually acknowledge the loss. By saying, "let's have funny song choices and I want everyone to wear colourful clothing" or whatever, you're denying your friends and family the catharsis to truly say goodbye. The commemoration can come later, but there needs to be the mourning first. So screw you all, but I want people crying at my funeral. I'd have a choir sing the Agnus Dei movement from Fauré's Requiem. That should bring the house down.

When I was younger I wanted to be cremated and have my ashes scattered under this tiny metal bridge where I played as a youngster

Now, well maybe something less sentimental, like being put in a bin bag and punched down a rabbit warren. Funny how time changes things
