You'd be better begging Qwerty but I might have to invoke Eurovision rules on content.

Yes, because when you think of Eurovision you think of good taste. Personally I think dragging a pensioner out of his nursing home, thrusting a microphone in his hand and making him perform for the camera while he struggles to understand where he is tends to be in bad taste, we have to put up with it when Tom Jones goes on The Voice, Eurovision should aim higher.

Yeh, but at least he didn't sing about politics.

That's a no-no. Although there was one dubious looking banner rolled out in the semis.

You mean Jedward's song wasn't political?

Ever since The Voice started I keep imagining there's an alternate reality where Tom Jones was huge in the 60s and then his career died and nobody remembers him. In this reality he just drinks in pubs in Ponty', going up to strangers and saying "I knew Elvis, see..."

Apparently the Hump had an Elvis memento on stage with him.

Gimli/Rawlinson to confirm films., Qwerty to choose films and country and then I'll take last choice.

If that's all in place I think Sunday would be a good time to start. Most of the films are generally better known than the average HoF apart from a couple, so I was thinking of suggesting sticking to a couple of months for viewing? People could also post their fantasy choices for countries.

My first film is definite. My second would be, if only I could be sure that the Youtube vid' will stay up.

PM received.

I should probably just set up my own choices for two countries. That'd keep things speedy.

What are we doing with the surplus countries? Are they going to be banished like disappointing semi finalists or are people going to take them on as second picks?

Banished for the moment I'm afraid. 24 films seems a decent enough limit.

I'm surprised if Russia don't get in though - I wouldn't choose it myself but I'd have thought it'd be a pretty likely candidate.

And, of course, if I go for Sweden, no Bergman!

We have 12 people and 24 films. That's a reasonable limit and that's what we're going with.

We have extended the HOF to 13 people before, though, and 26 entries would make it the same as this year's Eurovision contest. Please let me in, I'll be good.

'k- we are now good to go. Everyone has chosen countries and films and the main Empire Eurovision thread will be stickied up tomorrow (although if you want a last minute change of film don't worry - as long as it's with me by midday tomorrow it'll be fine).

I'm proposing we go with the 2 month viewing window for the films - I think most of you will recognise the names of nearly all the films and will already have seen and know and love/hate them. We can see where we are in terms of viewing 6 months in.

At the end of viewing each country (ie person who picked the country) will submit their top 10 votes - you can't vote for your own country (unlike HoF) though.

As with Eurovsion, there are lots of countries not actually in the final who also vote for the outcome once they've listened to the songs. Now, obviously this is something we'll have to exclude newbies from because if we're going to let posters who aren't submitting countries submit a top 10 we'll have to take it on trust - and we're effectively taking their word - that they've watched all 24 films before voting. It's not like the public vote in the HoF, but will be like the all join in for the Literature one.

Final votes will be made public as we'll do a run down of the voting during one day. It would be brilliant if everyone could be around at the same time (I was even thinking about a Doodle!) because then everyone could take their turn posting votes and we wouldn't need a separate vote counter! Still an option I guess - we'll see later. I'll set up a vote e-mail just in case though.

All films chosen should be readily available via rental but if anyone does need help I've got most of them and loan copies out as required.
