There was only 20seconds in it but Rawlinson just got in with the Czech Republic over Impqueen - intriguing top choice for both!

So

Rawlinson
Impqueen

and Czech Republic and Russia now gone. I'm just leaving mine till everyone else has had a go.

I don't mind going Poland if Impy prefers Czech. One only just edged the other for me, and I'd be quite happy knowing both are taking part.

It's only the Shane version I know. I can't even remember who else was on that show. I did like his cover though.

I sort of remember that episode. Dana International was on it as well.

Cool - I'll swap them over. Russia is now back in play.

Boo. I wanted Deutschland

So, as I said in my wedding vows, I'll settle for anything now.

I think I remember someone like Sinead O'Connor also taking part, but that's about it.

I have a question about film choices, do we let you know on thread or by pm? How many per country? And if one of the choices isn't on dvd, but is on Youtube, is it ok?

I think these are the countries left, although there are about 42 entering Eurovision at the moment so if you have strong feelings for the likes of San Marino or Montenegro, go for it! (I took out Romania for Homer just in case).

Sweden
Norway
Russia
Turkey
Austria
Ukraine
Netherlands
Belgium
Iceland
Greece
Portugal

Qwerty/Hubu - state your preferences please.

There wasn’t much between Czech and Russia for me but thanks Rawls though now I feel under pressure to produce.

Choices I think by PM, so it's a bit of a surprise for everyone else.

I think 2 - we can sort out timing later. The reason I'd prefer more than one is then it's less of a particular director winning but it's the overall country score that would take it. That's why I'd ask that you don't choose more than one by the same director if that's OK with everyone?

I mentioned the accessibility thing up front so I hope everyone who's happy to take part will be OK using things like youtube for viewing - it helps widen it out a lot more I think.

If we go with 24 countries, does that seem a decent number for everyone to submit their top 10 on? It fits well with the theme as the final contest has been around 25 (now 26 with Italy) for ages and all voters submit their top 10. It means we have a single round which I think also works well, even if it might last a while.

And, in the spirit of Eurovision, even those not in the contest can vote but only if they've seen all of the films. Like the Literature HoF.

What do we do regarding joint nationality films? One I'm looking to put forward is a France/Italy production, and another one on the shortlist is France/Austria/Germany/Italy/USA .

Have I been assigned a country or do I need to choose one from the selection I said I was comfortable with?

My head's up my arse today so sorry if this has already been answered.

I think Elab said you're Germany:

quote:

ORIGINAL: elab49

Based on what people have said above, taking into account the joiners who asked for one of one or more countries I've assigned countries in order to
Gimli
Movieaddict
Rebel Scum
Harry
Sadface

And UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Denmark are now gone.

Sorry, those weren't in order. I went from the first post and cut them down based on what countries people could do.

Gimli - UK
Movieaddict - Ireland
Harry - France
Rebel - Germany
Sadface - Denmark
Rawlinson - Poland
Impqueen - Czech
Rebenectomy - SPain

If you could PM me possible joint nationality films and I'll have a look. Reb's eg I'm completely happy with but, as also mentioned, it might go on here just to make sure we don't have another Children of Men moment.

The key to this - rather than the country lists we ran before - is there is less of a creative need for it to belong to that country. Eg I'd actually say most of Kubrick's in the Uk would be eligible here where they weren't really for the Brit List. Although the foreign entries we've used have tended to be former colonies - Australian, Canadian etc. Someone with some kind of connection to the country. But the German entry this year - written by Jamie Cullum. I think Ronan Keating wrote for the Danes a couple of years ago. So first step - please PM.

Rebel, they're both fine.

Rebenectomy's choice was Pan's Labyrinth. It seems fair to clear it on here, but it's Spain first on IMDB, it's a Spanish story, it was filmed in Spain, won big at the Spanish Goya's and I think it's completely OK for this contest and the slightly wider parameters for nationality of creative input. So speak now etc etc. I wouldn't even ask but, as was mentioned, Children of frakkin' Men.

If I'd have gotten Spain then Pan's Labyrinth would have been one of my entries as well so I've no problems with it personally.

I'll PM my noms later on.

I'm assuming this will be Gimli's choice.

And yes, I was serious about Romania!
