Carnage (2012)

Directed by: Roman Polanski

Written by: Yasmina Reza (Play)
Roman Polanski (Screenplay)

Music by: Alexandre Desplat

Starring: Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, John C. Reilly, Christoph Waltz

After two eleven year old boys are involved in an argument after school, one hits the other in the face with a stick. Instead of discussing the matter via teachers, the straight-laced and uptight parents (Winslet and Waltz) of the assailant agree to speak with the artistic, laid back parents (Foster and Reilly) of the victim.
Unfortunately I haven't seen the play, Le Dieu de Carnage (The God of Carnage) by Yasmina Reza on which this film was based, but I imagine it working better on stage than on screen. Polanski's outstanding talent isn't put to use on this film but he does a fine job. However the performances of its female leads, who I feel carry this film, are confident, assured and very funny.
