Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011) Directed by: Brad Bird Written by: Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec (Screenplay) Music by: Michael Giacchino Starring: Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Simon Pegg, Michael Nyqvist, Léa Seydoux, Josh Holloway, Anil Kapoor After being implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin, and the secretary of state is murdered, the IMF is shut down and Ethan Hunt and his new team must go rogue in order to clear their name of any involvement with a nuclear extremist. The fourth instalment is similar to the previous three in that the story comes second, the list of action sequences first. However Brad Bird somehow manages to breathe a bit of new life into the franchise. Bringing the frenetic energy of his excellent Pixar films to this slickly constructed live-action effort, making Ghost Protocol a massive guilty pleasure. Actually, isn't that what all of the films are? Maybe there is no new life, maybe it's just fun.
