So, how do we all feel about Agent Coulson being brought back for the SHIELD TV series? Does it lessen the impact of his death in the Avengers, or will this be a series based pre-Avengers?

I personally am delighted he'll be back, I don't care of it's based before or after Avengers. Comic book characters "die" and come back all the time, do they not? I'll be interested to see how they do bring him if that's to be case.

I'm not a reader of the comics (movie bandwagoner) so what heroes/villains do the comic readers want/expect to crop up in this series?

Personally, I'd prefer it to be a prequel. Set even before the events of Iron Man and charting SHIELD's exploits leading up to the film arcs. That way they can easily avoid the inclusion of movie characters and just keep it more grounded in SHIELD's more Earthbound threats. Inclusion of street level bad-guys and heroes would be cool - hell, Marvel have the rights to enough of them now. Luke Cage, Punisher, Iron Fist... SHIELD were obviously aware of 'heroes' leading up to the events of the movies, whose to say there's not more heroes on SHIELD's books than Hawkeye and BW.

It has to be a prequel though doesnt it? If it's set post Avengers it wont make sense, as any threat SHIELD deal with on the show should be easily dealt with by the Avengers. If it was set post AVengers viewers would always be going "But why doesn't Iron Man/Thor/Cap/Hulk just show up and sort this shit out?". A prequel will make most sense.

I heard a rumour that Coulson was gonna be brought back to life by S.H.I.E.L.D using robotics and computer technology and that he would become The Vision! I actually heard that was gonna be the extra bit on the end of The Avengers and that he was going to be rebuilt by S.H.I.E.L.D with the added help of Tony Stark and Bruce Banner (that apparently where the two of them were going together at the end of Avengers), but that turned out to be BS. It would be great if it were true though! Vision is a great character!

You could say the same thing about all the solo films from here on in though. SHIELD will deal with street level threats I'd imagine, things too small to even bother a single Avenger with let alone the whole crew. I'd like to see Carol Danvers (preferably in her new Captain Marvel guise), Luke Cage, Daredevil, Iron Fist and a few minor characters get an introduction personally, possibly with a view to introducing them into mainstream Avenger territory (Danvers and Cage especially).

I agree that a prequel makes most sense though but that's mainly because of Coulson being in it.

Michael Jai White for Black Panther! Come on, you know it would be awesome.

Yeah, I don't think the SHIELD series would deal with anything major - just regular terrorist/villain threats. Something that doesn't require the Avengers. Perhaps sorting out Leader's creation from The Incredible Hulk? The fallout of assorted aliens pottering around New York post-Avengers?

Black Panther's not a character that I've ever found interesting personally, if MJW was to play any character I'd rather it was Luke Cage. At 44 he's probably getting on a bit for that though.

Hugo Weaving not interested in revisting Red Skull...

http://comicbook.com/blog/2012/10/18/hugo-weaving-not-interested-in-returning-as-red-skull/

I can see them bringing the character back - too big to leave dead IMO. But if Weaving really wants to get out of the contract - Marvel will simply recast I guess.

Any ideas on a possible replacement if that happens?

Kevin Bacon's been thrown around a lot on other boards, personally I think that would be a good pick.

I'd be surprised if the Skull doesn't return but I wouldn't expect to see him again until Phase 3, Phase 2's overarching lead up to Avengers 2 is allegedly going to involve Thanos (I wonder if he'll be revealed as a shadowy presence or secret leader of the Thor: The Dark World threat as well as his apparent role in Guardians of the Galaxy) which may not leave much room for the Skull as a big bad anytime soon. Cap 2 doesn't seem to feature him in any way, neither will Iron Man 3.

If Ant-Man is coming out after The Avengers 2, does that mean he'll not appear in the sequel OR will he have a Hawkeye-sized role that will be expanded in his own film?

Hopefully they won't overload the Avengers sequel with new characters, the last thing we want is it to become an X-Men 3. Couple new characters, make it smaller and more personal and Whedon would be on to a winner. Perhaps a team death?

I think Ant-Man has to be introduced in some shape or form before his main movie, although an original avenger in the comics, he'll still be unfamiliar to the wider moviegoing audience. Here's a link to an interview with Kevin Feige where he said Hank Pym would've had a name check in Thor, but it was later removed (scroll to the bit between the 2nd pic of Feige and Thor poster). http://collider.com/kevin-feige-interview-thor-avengers-iron-man-3-ant-man-doctor-strange/88459/

Personally, I'd prefer not to have an Avenger's funeral so early in the process. I can understand the emotional impact and drive that would have for the characters (they did it with Coulson) and they've done it in the comics enough, but it would surely be financial suicide to off one of their big hitters, even at the sequel stage.

Nah, go all Wrath of Khan and then have The Avengers III: The Search for (insert deceased Avenger name).

I guess they all came back from the dead one time or another anyway - no reason why it can't happen in the movie universe.

Apparently Natalie Portman tried to get out of her contractual obligations to return for the sequel after Patty Jenkins was dropped as director, but Marvel cracked the whip and she's back, but apparently not that happy about it.

Really? That's ever so gutting. I really liked her character in Thor and was looking forward to seeing her role develop in Thor 2. Hope she doesn't do a half-arsed phoned-in performance now. They obviously knew they were gonna use her again, hence why her absence is explained away in The Avengers.

You know, Pre-Avengers, Thor was the film I enjoyed the most but having recently re-watched them all, (including the Avengers), the Avenger I most want to see more of is Captain America. I think a huge part of that, is down to Chris Evans' portrayal. I also can't wait to see how the character is handled now that he's going to have to settle into a different era. If you haven't seen the "Man out of time" deleted scenes featuring Steve from The Avengers, go watch them, you'll see exactly what I mean.

Is there anything as annoying as teasers for trailers? Just fucking so annoying!

Anyway, interested to see what the trailer brings tomorrow. Have no idea about the Mandarin or his history as a character, but the look seems a little odd to me. Still, at least it doesnt appear to be just a generic man in a robotic suit to go up against Iron Man. Only issue so far..... Downy Jnr's new Stark haircut. What the fuck?!

Looks cool, although i think they show a bit too much of the house being destroyed at the end, as in, too much trailer time.
