Understandably, the pressure of having to create something so HUGE and sucessful is draining. Joss must be exhausted. Which is why I think he should do it... but give it a couple of years, recovery time :P

it's like Lord of the Rings. If Peter Jackson had directed the first one, and not the others, I really believe the trilogy would have been rubbish. Jackson and Whedon seem to have a distinct style that just works, and for the sequels to be cohesive they need to maintain that style.

On a lighter note, I feel the Avengers Sequel needs to have the following:

- Captain America's problems with readjusting in the modern world.
- Wolverine. Just cos.
- more background on the whole Hawkeye-Widow love-like story.
- Loki needs a sinister theme tune. or he should just rap, Hiddleston is a great rapper.
- Tony Stark needs to say "stop. hammertime!", in reference to Mjolnir.
- should be set in London. we'll show that Norse God, his army, The Avengers, and any other strange manifestations what's what.

Him not doing Avengers 2 would be a shame, but him not doing ANY more Marvel flicks would be devastating. Let him do a Black Widow flick, Hulk or even Captain America.

Wtf happened to Spiderman and Wolverine? They were original Avengers too... Andrew Garfield's a great shout for Spidey so we'd now have a genuinely brilliant ensemble. Where the hell did Black Widow come in? And why the fuck would we want more of her, firing shitty Glock's or whatever, when there are Genuine Avengers awaiting their call to duty?

I'm sure they'd have loved to include Spider-Man and Wolverine, but as Marvel doesn't own the cinematic rights to those characters, there was no way to have them as part of the team.

Personally, I'd like to see Frank Castle in the next one just to see how he and his personal ethos mingles with current batch of heroes.

Please direct the sequel, Mr Whedon. There's no rush, but if it has to happen, it has to be you at the helm.

I'm glad we won't see Wolverine in the Avengers- Fox isn't going to give up their mutant franchise, and even if they did there'd have to be some serious retooling to get the mutants into the Avengers universe (maybe something like Crisis on Infinite Earths, a bit of dimension splicing, but you know, not DC). Spider-man never seems like he's got a lot to do with the Avengers, he's always side-lined, undermined by characters and writers alike when he shows up. X-Men and Spider-man are better apart. Fantastic Four on the other hand, now they'd fit right in. But they're over at Fox with X-Men and Daredevil, which has all the potential to be Fox's very own Dark Knight.

I heard they were making a Punisher tv show which sounded awful, would be interested to see him worked in to the new movie universe, and I'd like to see Luke Cage too, saving the world at street level following a planet in turmoil having discovered we're not alone in the universe. Looking at those characters, there's no reason the universe couldn't be expanded to include TV shows- these guys wouldn't be too expensive to put on the small screen. You wouldn't get much cross over from the movies' big names, but there's a lot of scope to play with without them.

I hate to dismount the bandwagon, i thoroughly enjoyed Avengers but i wanted a little more X2 depth and emotion. Twas a very competently made blockbuster and im not against Whedon making another one, but wouldn't anyone else like to see another director take on this material? Singer, JJ Abrams, Cameron, Nol.........

Personal wish fullfilment is Death's Head having been given a contract to take out The Avengers before innevitably turning and fighting with them over an unpaid bill.

Strictly business, yes?

Disney doesn't own the rights to Spiderman (Sony does) or Wolverine (Fox does) which is sadly why they couldn't be in the movie. I would love to see The Thing Vs The Hulk on the screen but Fox also owns The Fantastic Four too

quite right, it isn't. i was just pointing out the fact it seems odd to use "not straight" like he had an aversion to using the word gay.

With Whedon dithering, you can bet that Joel Schumacher and Bret Ratner are busy polishing their CV's.

And even apart from the pain-in-the-ass ownership wrangles that Shifty pointed out, Spidey and Wolverine weren't original Avengers.  In fact, the only originals missing from the movie line up were Dr & Mrs Pym, but considering Ant-man is coming to his own Edgar Wright-directed movie at some stage soon, I guess we can rule him turning up in Avengers 2.  Pity, because I thought Ultron would make a good villain for the next outing, though no doubt it will inevitably end up with the Infinity Gauntlet.

If, as he seems to hint, Avengers 2 will be stronger on female characters, then please lets have Ms Marvel and Scarlet Witch!

I'm interested by all this Whedon love, because it felt to me like quite a machine-tooled Marvel film. I didn't feel like it had a great authorial voice or anything. It's really really good, don't get me wrong, but I can imagine it being exactly the same film if john Favreau had made it. Do you really think it's all about Whedon genius, rather than just really good planning and overseeing by Marvel studio? Even Whedon says it's "somebody else's film".

I'm personally get pissed off with the constant use of strong female leads; that results in the male cast looking like whipped, useless dumb asses. (They say sexism is a two way door; is it?)

What happened to the good ol days of Predator when then men did all the work, and got their due for it? Hopefully Sly will bring those days back with Expendables 2.

So to close off; fuck feminism, and fuck the Black Widow!

Wow! Somebody sounds like a dick!

Characterzation isn't a finite commodity that one character can hog - if the male characters look dumb its the writers fault.

Just as a random example watch The Police Story movies - especially Police Story 3 where Michelle Yeoh kicks ass and Jackie Chan is just as strong. or even 'His Girl Friday' Grant goes toe to toe with Russel in that battle of wits.

Chillax and leave the Sexism for Country side oafs

Why not do something different for a change...what about the Civil War or World War Hulk? Avengers was ok but so much potential missed by pandering to fanboys with formulaic guff. Roll on Iron Man 3 as the second one was pretty dire too! Great characters but not sure multiples actually works.
