i mean, it's not like they're making a Paul Thomas Anderson film, it's got a KNOCKERS PUN IN THE TITLE!

it's great silly funny, and it's got the BAYWATCH theme in it.

so, go watch it before I spoil the ending of Dark Knight Rises for you.... because I am Chris Nolan.

Enjoyed this. It's on a smaller scale than the first film and there's nothing (gore wise) to match the mayhem in the first film but somehow it ends up being the better film. Disagree about it being lazily thrown together. Gulager was only given 2, yes TWO weeks to film the movie and considering that he's done a sound job. Small on scale, but funnier and a much more enjoyable flick than the first film. The 3D is a lot better too.

As a massive fan of number one, this film was an unmitigated disaster, Mean-spirited, lacking the comedy, tension or characters that made number one so great. Or the quality 3D. Native was worse than post-con, crazy.

Doesn't compare to the first film. Whereas 'Piranha 3D' featured plenty of suspence and a rewarding climax, this film provides cheap thrills and a final act that features very little bloodshed. The film is redeemed by brilliant performances from Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames and David Hasselhoff and by dialogue so poorly written that it's quite possibly the funniest that you'll hear all year. The film is of straight-to-DVD quality but not too disappointing as this is almost exactly what you expect from the title and the movie's synopsis. I believe the film shares many similarities with the 'Scary Movie' franchise: It's filled with constant self-mockery and ridiculous set pieces. The film ends with potential for a third film but I really hope that this is the last. You will cry tears of laughter throughout the film's brief running time, but leave the cinema feeling extremely underwhelmed.

A year after the attack on Lake Victoria by prehistoric piranhas, an eradication campaign has left the lake uninhabitable by life, and the town itself has been largely abandoned as a result of the drying-up of their main revenue source, tourism. At a nearby lake, two farmers walk into the water to recover the body of a dead cow and are attacked and killed by a swarm of piranhas from eggs laid inside the body of the cow hatch. Meanwhile Maddy, a marine biology student, returns home for the Summer to the water park she co-owns. She finds to her horror that the other co-owner, her step-father Chet, plans to add an adult-themed section, with ‘water-certified strippers’, and re-open it as “Big Wet.” At a party at the water park that night, Maddy encounters several old acquaintances, including her policeman ex-boyfriend Kyle, Barry, who has secretly had a crush on her since grade-school, and two friends, Ashley and Shelby. However, it seems that some piranhas are intent on making food of people at the park…….

Piranha 3D, which only bore a loose resemblance to the 1978 movie called Piranha, was a classic example of what David Gillespie calls a ‘Great Beer Movie’, meaning a film that might very well be devoid of much artistic merit and is best enjoyed with a bunch of mates and a crate of beer. Surprisingly the film did not do very well at the box office so I was amazed when a sequel was announced. Well, here it is, and for a film I didn’t expect much from and expected to go straight to home viewing, it isn’t too bad, but I think many folk who enjoyed the first movie will be very disappointed by it. In sequels of this nature, you expect more of the same but Bigger and Bolder, and Piranha 3DD just does not really deliver that. If you are an unabashed fan of monster movies though like me, I reckon you will certainly get some enjoyment out of it if you lower your expectations.

Alexandre Aja decided not to make a sequel to his movie, so John Gulager, responsible for the Feast series which certainly have a considerable cult following but which I just don’t ‘get’, was given the job. It seems like he was constrained by what is obviously a far lower budget than the first movie. It seems even more that the production was rushed, because some parts of it are very well done and other parts are quite bad. The film is certainly nicely tight, with no fat whatsoever; it gets to the point immediately and refuses to waste any time afterwards. The opening scene with Gary Busey [who hardly seems to have changed at all] is good and has a few good jolts before the final shock, but it doesn’t match the Richard Dreyfuss sequence in the original, and that’s really the main problem; the film is fun but generally comes off second best. The piranhas attack people and attack more people, but most of the time the shaky, very close, camerawork ensures that you can’t really see very much. There is a few juicy bits of quick gruesomeness though, with heads, arms and other body parts often being severed, and there’s an enjoyably disgusting bit which I won’t go into detail about but you can surmise from the great line:

“Josh cut off his penis because something came out of my vagina”.

Sadly, despite this film getting an ‘18’ certificate, which these days normally indicates that the content is very extreme indeed, not much of what happens is actually shown, and while leaving stuff to the imagination is often a good thing, in a movie like this it doesn’t work; you just want to see everything, in all of its gruesome and blackly amusing detail. Lads just out to ogle will of course be pleased that there are far more boobs on display, and occasionally a scene displays real inventiveness. Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer and Christopher Lloyd all reprise their fun roles from the first movie, and Rhames, who makes any film more enjoyable by just being in it, has a terrific gag involving one of his metal legs [remember, he lost both his legs in Piranha]. The film just about keeps afloat as a slightly scaled-done rehash of the first film, despite the increased humour minimising the scare factor, until somebody shows up. I mean….yes…the Hoff!

You could say that David Hasselhoff’s constant willingness to take the mickey out of himself is a good thing, but I have always thought it’s rather sad that never tries to ….you know….actually be good. He is crap in this movie, but was obviously asked to be, so made to attempt whatsoever, after all, that’s why people like him, isn’t it? He’s just as awful an actor as he was back in 1978’s Starcrash, and for me his self-parodying appearance in Piranha 3DD lowered the film considerably and totally removed what element of fear there was. If everything is done for a laugh, what’s the point? For me, while the girls are certainly nice to look at, only Rhames and Christopher Lloyd really hit the tone of the material. The film is incredibly uneven; lots of scenes seem to be terribly filmed with lots of herky-jerky camerawork and endless close ups, but a few bits are cleverly done, with quite a few unusual angles; I especially liked a cracked mirror scene shot from behind the mirror. Likewise, the 3D is mixed: much of it is either pointless or blurry but a few things do work very well- watch out for a bit with a key that will really make you think the key is hovering in front of you. This film needed more stuff like this though.

I would still say that Piranha 3DD justs about passes muster as an enjoyable hour and a half at the pictures, so long as you lower you expectations: I haven’t yet mentioned a couple of good parodies of other movies and that some of the film seems a partial take-off on Jaws 3D. The piranhas look good too. If there is going to be a third one though, please filmmakers, try a bit harder, and if you have to have a cult guest ‘star’, get one who is actually good.

Rating: 5/10

i though it was great fun

horror films are what i do

saw it tuesday afternoon. i was the only person there in the whole screening (lol)

but yeah i though it was a lot better than the other one, the first one took its self way to serious

but 3dd was exactly the right way to go,
--exploding horses
--an awesome Clu Gulager cameo
--black guy with shotgun legs
--nudity
--some gore
--one liners
--the hoff as himself, and becoming the fish hunter with his own theme tune at the end

had a blast at it

I didn't find it funny at all, I didn't laugh once. I know they had a small budget but you'd expect a sequel to be bigger not this unimaginative mess.Nothing really happens in the main attack scene towards the end, it's so dull. Plus, the scene over the first lot of end credits is horrible. You can tell the film-makers thought so too as it is in black and white, I doubt they'd have got that passed the censors if it as in full colour.

I quite like the first film, too. This one had none of its charm. Or wit.In fact, the outtakes at the end were funnier than the actual film. Oh, yes, I went there

I always thought Alexandre Aja's 2010 remake of Joe Dante's classic PIRANHA was a bit overrated. However, I was still excited for the sequel. I mean, it had David Hasselhoff, Gary Busey, Clu Gulager, Christopher Lloyd, and Ving Rhames in the cast and was set at a water park, so how could they possibly screw this up? Enter PIRANHA 3DD.

The prehistoric, carnivorous piranha from the first film have swam out of Lake Victoria and find themselves in a lake just outside of The Big Wet, a sleazy water park. The lecherous owner decides to use water from that lake for his water park to save money, and unwittingly unleashes the piranha on the patrons at the park. Can his step-daughter, her love interest, and even the Hoff himself put a stop to the ensuing carnage?

PIRANHA 3DD should have been great. It should have been the best movie of the summer. But it wasn't. It was one of the biggest letdowns I have ever come across. But it wasn't ALL bad. The inclusion of the Hoff and Busey was entertaining in itself, even if Busey isn't really given anything to do. I mean, if you get Gary Busey to be in your film, why not make him, well, crazy, seeing as that's what he's known for? David Hasselhoff was easily the best part of the entire thing because of how hilarious he was. There's even a montage of him running in slow motion to save a ginger kid from the piranhas!

Actually, all the events leading up to the big massacre at the water park were really unnecessary. You could have just shown the beginning and the end water park scene, and the whole thing would still make perfect sense.

Probably the worst thing about it is how hard it's trying to replicate the original. Much like MEN IN BLACK II, it tries to be like the original by over-exploiting the good things about the first. The first was taken somewhat serious with an underlying humor, but here, there's absolutely no seriousness. There are a lot of dumb jokes that just do not work, and a lot of situations that are just trying way too hard to be funny instead of just being naturally humorous like the first.

Even though the water park massacre was the best part of the movie, it was still a letdown! Remember how the first PIRANHA 3D actually had some funny and interesting death scenes? Not here. It's just piranhas nibbling on swimmers. That's it. Oh, and a piranha gets stuck between a guy's crack. That's the kind of humor we're dealing with in this movie. They could have done so much with the water park setting, and they waste it all.

PIRANHA 3DD had some fun moments, but as a whole was pretty stale. It tries WAY too hard to replicate the original and be funny, and loses half the entertainment value along the way. This one might get better with future viewings, but right now, it's pretty moldy.

I was never that big of a fan of the original, but now, I see that it could have been a whole lot worse

Piranha 3DD

On one front this film does exactly what it says on the tin, its a creature feature boasting no more than soft porn and mindless killing via nasty sharp toothed fish. If you enjoy this type of film then you will possibly enjoy this 'comedy' horror, there is nothing to explain as its entirely obvious all the way through.

On the other front you could also look at this as yet another completely pointless waste of money and time which offers absolutely zilch originality in any department.

Personally I enjoy creature features but this is pretty much bottom of the barrel stuff that wasn't needed and drags down the genre's good image. Its completely a rehash/rerun of the first film (almost identical for gods sake) that offers terrible effects both real and cgi coupled with lame vanilla 'porn' which only teenagers would find sexy.

Comedy horror? no, not at tall, not even remotely amusing. Although it does amuse me how the makers couldn't decide what they wanted it to be. It does start off as a reasonably sensible creature horror but totally deteriorates into a spoof towards the end, I half expected Leslie Nielsen to pop up, quite bizarre frankly.

Yes it delivers more pointless flesh eating goldfish which some may want but ultimately the film is so badly made, so trashy with dreadful...everything! Quite simply if you wanna see tits n ass just watch some porn, why bother watching this nonsense?
The only half decent thing was Hasselhoff enjoying a laugh at his own expense. The 'Baywatch' spoofing could easily be a fun film on its own, just drop the shitty piranha plot and you could have a winner.

3DD isnt as good or fresh as its proceedor, and it does at times feel a little recycled but this is a very enjoyable and laughable horror which is worth the watch. The film almost fits into the horror channel catagory but in a good way, almost like as if a film is so bad its good but the film is actually good.

Piranha DD, the worst, most useless and wasted 80 minutes of my entire life. Words cannot describe how shockingly rubbish this film is and I will never watch another film from John Gulager as long as I live. However, judging by this atrocious piece of crap, this is the end of his career. I honestly feel sorry for the people who spent their money to watch this movie. Please do not buy this film, don't even look at it!
