Girv is in his holy temple.
Earthly thoughts, be silent now.
While with rev'rence we assemble
And before his presence bow
He is with us now and ever
When we call upon his name
Aiding every good endeavor
Guiding every upward aim

Girv is in his holy temple
In the pure and holy mind
In the reverent heart and simple
In the soul from sense refined
Then let every low emotion
Banished far and silent be
And our souls in pure devotion
Lord, be temples worthy thee.

Dance, then, wherever you may be,

Girv is the Lord of the Dance, said he,

And he'll lead you all, wherever you may be,

And he'll lead you all in the Dance, said he.

His name was Girvan, he was a showgirl
With yellow feathers in his hair and a dress cut down to there
He would merengue and do the cha-cha
And while He tried to be a star, Olaf always tended bar
Across a crowded floor, they worked from 8 till 4
They were young and they had each other
Who could ask for more?

Girv was a good bowler, and a good man. He was one of us. He was a man who loved the outdoors... and jagerbombs, and as a surfer he explored the beaches of Southern California, from La Jolla to Leo Carrillo and... up to... Pismo. He died, like so many young men of his generation, he died before his time. In your wisdom, Lord, you took him, as you took so many bright flowering young men at Khe Sanh, at Langdok, at Hill 364. These young men gave their lives. And so would Girv. Girv who loved jagerbombs. And so, Rgirvan44, in accordance with what we think your dying wishes might well have been, we commit your final mortal remains to the bosom of the Pacific Ocean, which you loved so well. Good night, sweet prince.

I wanted to ask you a couple of questions while I had you here. I'm interested in selling my youngest daughter into slavery as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. She's a Georgetown sophomore, speaks fluent Italian, and always clears the table when it was her turn. What would a good price for her be? While thinking about that, can I ask another? My Chief of Staff, Olaf, insists on working on the Sabbath, Exodus 35:2, clearly says he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself or is it okay to call the police? Here's one that's really important, 'cause we've got a lot of sports fans in this town. Touching the skin of a dead pig makes one unclean, Leviticus 11:7. If they promise to wear gloves, can the Washington Redskins still play football? Can Notre Dame? Can West Point? Does the whole town really have to be together to stone my brother, Swords, for planting different crops side by side? Can I burn my mother in a small family gathering for wearing garments made from two different threads? Think about those questions, would you? One last thing, while you may be mistaking this for your monthly meeting of the Ignorant Tightass Club, on this forum, when Rgirvan stands, nobody sits.

Go back to where it was previously when two out of every three threads, or rather the whole place, wasn't just de-railed by a select group of posters who have, to say the least, a rather warped sense of humour.

The fact this thread even exists, most of them here these days seem nonsical which is why it seems that OT has, as the earlier thread referred to, "needed saving."

Isn't that the way it's always been though? I mean sure this is no Zombie Survival thread or What's Your Computer Wallpaper thread, but OT has always been a hive of dumb and lunacy.

I think you missed the aim of the other thread tbh Goodfella. Such a pity we can't go back to the good old days of 'It's Saturday tomorrow, what should I do' or 'god I hate coleslaw' or 'I'm trapped in off-topic'

No-one's saying there weren't crap threads back then as well but sometimes some of the stuff you see here now is just, well, odd. I can't think of another word to describe it, there's a definite clique here that's for sure and how many new threads do you see compared to that of the old OT? The place is dying, I'm not the first person to mention this. Even The Scottish Thread died and I didn't think that was possible...

Goodfella, you're flipping this over to a thread derailment. Can I suggest you take your state of the nation concerns specifically to the thread you've already referenced and leave this thread to the people who were actually enjoying it?

Here's my feelings about this: if you feel like a thread is a bit crap and is beneath you, get out and start your own. Stop complaining and start contributing.

Personally speaking I don't think I would want to be part of a forum that is serious all the time. Loosen the hell up.

Never said anything about it being "beneath me" and I can't contribute to something that basically makes little to no sense, I'm entitled to my opinion and I gave it.

I also said nothing about "being serious all the time." I just said it'd be nice to see OT go back to a bit of where it was before where it was lively place and there were some decent, understandable threads that a bit majority of posters contributed to.

I am not only walking out on this case, Rgirvan, I am leaving the nursing profession. I became a nurse because all my life, ever since I was a little girl, I was filled with the idea of serving a suffering humanity. After one month with you , Rgirvan, I am going to work in a munitions factory. From now on , anything I can do to help exterminate the human race will fill me with the greatest of pleasure. If Florence Nightingale had ever nursed YOU, RGrivan, she would have married Jack the Ripper instead of founding the Red Cross!
