About a year ago, i read the best news ever.

Chow Yun Fat, the God of action films, had signed on to play a character called Twenty One, a Bounty-Hunter who blasted zombie cowboys all over the Wild West. The official synopsis was;

The name of a young Bounty-Hunter is spreading across the West.

That name is Twenty-One. It comes from a left hand that bears six fingers. His deadly reputation comes from his right hand that wields a gun.

Twenty-One is bringing his latest quarry to justice when he meets the enigmatic Rellik. It seems the men have two things in common; both are Bounty-Hunters and both are stupendously fast with a gun.

Twenty-One's curiosity with Rellik increases when he comes to realize that their encounter was not by chance; Rellik has been following him. He has plans for the boy.

As they ride to a secret destination, Twenty-One learns that Rellik is unlike any other Bounty-Hunter he has met before.

Rellik is a Bounty-Hunter for the Undead.

The prison that holds the Undead outlaws is concealed beneath the Monastery of Wretched Sisters, an isolated edifice in the middle of the desert.

The prisoners are incarcerated in the catacombs and guarded by a specialist Order of Monks. The Monastery is Alcatraz for the Undead.

The Wretched begins as a classic tale of Master and Apprentice, with slices of black humour reminiscent of "J" and "K" in Men In Black. But events twist into horror as a wagon train of misguided travelers stumble upon the Monastery and unwittingly release the Undead locked within. When Rellik and Twenty-One return from the boy's first demonic bounty-hunt, they find themselves facing a jail-break like no other.

An original fusion of gothic western and classic horror, The Wretched is A Fistful of Dollars meets Dawn of the Dead.

This "zombie western" (The Greatest Film Genre Ever!) was going to come from a London Production called Sheer Films. There was even a teaser poster at Cannes last year...............

[image]http://www.eatmybrains.com/images/news/wretchedtease.jpg[/image]

I remember the very concept had us old forum members drooling, so what happened to it?! It's not listed on Imdb.com and the film isn't listed on Yun-Fat's to do list, so why was it canned. It could have been the best film ever. This could have been the film to rival IRA Zombies.

Come Chris (Hewitt), you must know what happened to this bad boy.

Here's some concept art, i've found kicking around the 'net.

YEH! I wanna know where this film went! Chow Yun Fat and Zombies and Western, what's not to like?
I'd come up with the idea of a Zombie Western and thought it was perfect and entirely original when I heard about this. They'd better get on with it or else I will.

Bah, after browsing their website, i reckon they've put it on the backburner. Pity.

It sounds awesome. I browsed Chow Yun-Fat's forums on imdb.com looking for news and the reaction from his American fans was one of outrage.

Apparantly these types of genres shouldn't be crossed over and Chow shouldn't lower himself to starring in a British film. The bastards! Plus some Brit (!) had the gaul to say that he was barely known in this country. I'd say Chow Yun Fat was one of the more well known Asian stars especially after his roles in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and western fare like Anna and the King and The Replacement Killers.

Well I'm hoping that as Yun-Fat has now dropped out of Battle For Red Cliff, he has time to try and resurrect this bad boy.

I doubt it though...

Zombie western action? There are 3 words I never thought Id hear in the same sentence. Is it just me or do the pics above remind anyone of the Simpsons tree house of horror with the corpse of Billy the Kid taking over Springfield?

I bet that his casting in Pirates 3 has had something to do with it - I think The Wretched was announced before Pirates 3 was, but we all know how desperate Chow has been to break into Western (as in region, not genre) films, especially seeing as how most of his attempts have fallen flat on their ass.  Low-budget co-production or big budget already successful franchise - what's he gonna pick?!?!?!?

Check out Anthony Hickox's Sunset...the Vampire in Retreat.

A Western Vampire film with wooden Actors (David Carradine), wooden bullets and day walking vampires (they wear sunblock factor 2000.....

You couldn't make it up, but apperently Anthony did!

The director of The Wretched has apparantly finally made his Zombie Western.....with Wesley Snipes!

It's called Gallowwalker!

[image]http://www.intandemfilms.com/assets/gallow.jpg[/image]

It revolves around a cursed gunman who has the problem of all his victims coming back to life. Soon, he is hunted by a gang of his undead former victims, led by the vicious Kansa. Aman enlists Fabulos, a new young warrior, to fight by his side.

Apparantly this is the film that Snipes was shooting in Africa when he charged with dodging his taxes.

http://www.gallowwalker.com/

Also looks like Goth has stuck to his concept art for The Wretched.

Didn't know about the Chow connection til I read this, but mentioned the Snipes film back in this thread: http://www.empireonline.com/forum/tm.asp?m=1613834&mpage=1&key=wesley%2Csnipes&NID=0#1614568

Dammit, this film sounded absolutely awesome until Wesley Snipes took the lead. I really can't stand him, apart from maybe in Blade but thats about it. Chow Yun Fat would have rocked the shit in this film.

Another zombie western I watched last year; The Quick and the Undead. Straight to dvd but still a bit of fun.

It looks like Gallowwalker may be trapped in 'release hell'. Imdb is simply listing it as being in released in '2009'

The premise still looks good, but the trailer in the second half of it was well, not good..........

Rewatched the trailer as I'm getting nostalgic for Snipes after watching Demolition Man last night. Is this ever coming out?

Seems sad to have to still include this in Future Films after all this time. Maybe if Snipes gets his career back it might be released - his other problems may be a factor here?
